Ben Barnes Joins ABC Drama Pilot ‘Exposed’; Daniel Henney In ‘Agatha’

Ben Barnes (The Chronicles Of Narnia franchise) benbarnes1has been tapped as a male lead opposite Mary Elizabeth Winstead in ABC‘s drama pilot Exposed, from writer Charles Randolph, Peter Traugott’s TBD Entertainment, Sweden-based Yellow Bird Entertainment and Universal TV. Based on the best-selling Swedish novels by Liza Marklund, Exposed centers on Anna (Winstead), an investigative journalist who will stop at nothing to uncover the truth, including making questionable alliances. Barnes, repped by WME and Luber Roklin, will play Stoya, a mysterious man who develops an intimate relationship with Anna. He claims to be a pilot but is in fact an NSA whistleblower who is being hunted by the U.S. government because he knows too much.

‘Rake’s Bojana Novakovic Poised To Topline ABC Drama Pilot ‘Agatha’

novakovicRake co-star Bojana Novakovic is finalizing a deal for the title role in ABC’s drama pilot Agatha, from ABC Studios and Mark Gordon Co. It centers on former convict-turned-big-city criminologist Agatha (Novakovic), who is brought in to help local police crack a case involving a perplexing disappearance. The casting is in second position to Fox’s midseason series Rake, which has done poorly on Thursdays and is being moved to Fridays starting next week en route to likely cancellation. Rake marked the first US series for Serbian-born Australian actress Novakovic, repped by CAA and Management 360.

annableDave Annable (Brothers & Sisters, 666 Park Avenue) has nabbed a series regular role in Fox’s Red Band Society, from Amblin TV and ABC Studios. It is a coming-of-age drama that explores with dark humor the daily lives of a group of teenagers living in a hospital who become unlikely friends. Annable, repped by CAA and Barking Dog Entertainment, will play Dr. William McAndrew, a rock star pediatric oncologist and surgeon who tries not to get too attached to his young patients.

Justin Hartley & Ben Lawson Join ‘Damaged Goods’; ‘Agatha’ Adds Christian Keyes

HARTLEYJustin Hartley is set as a lead in Lauren Iungerich’s ABC comedy pilot Damaged Goods. It revolves around two damaged men (Hartley, Steve Talley) and two damaged women who explore the minutiae of love and relationships. Hartley’s smart and egoistic Tim is hit hard when his girlfriend and law firm colleague gets the promotion he expected to get. Childish and unable to applaud her accomplishments or be with a woman who outranks him, the relationship seems all but over — unless she resigns. He is repped by Innovative. Also cast as a regular in the pilot is Ben Lawson, who will play Michael, a smart, funny, good-natured, dermatologist.

It’s a character-driven procedural about Agatha, a former convict-turned-big-city criminologist who is brought in to help local police crack a case involving a perplexing disappearance. Keyes, repped by Resolution and manager  Jerome Martin, plays tattooed bad boy Zane. Agatha knows he’s trouble — she did time to protect him — but just can’t seem to stay away. And the feeling is definitely mutual. He recurs on BET’s Let’s Stay Together and ABC’s Mistresses.

grunbergUPDATE: Heroes alum Greg Grunberg is returning to primetime. No, he hasn’t been drafted for the upcoming Heroes event miniseries on NBC but for a co-starring role in ABC’s medical drama pilot Warriors from writer Chris Keyser, Mandeville TV and ABC Studios. Inspired by the Walter Reed Military Medical Center, Warriors follow the best and brightest active-duty military doctors and nurses as they practice trailblazing medicine.  Grunberg, repped by manager Susan Calogerakis, Resolution, and Jackoway Tyerman, will play wheelchair-bound OBGYN and obstetrical surgeon Leonard Mooney, a decommissioned officer with a gambling problem.

Both projects hail from ABC Studios and studio-based Mark Gordon Co. Agatha is a character-driven procedural about a former convict-turned-big-city criminologist who is brought in to help local police crack a case involving a perplexing disappearance. The chief detective she’s been hired to help is her father – and they haven’t talked in 15 years. Clementine centers on a troubled 28-year-old psychic who sees her life begin to change in unexpected ways when she decides to stop running from her past. Alexander is repped by ICM Partners and Fineman Entertainment. CAA-repped Dinner serves as director/executive producer on Justified.

ABC Picks Up Drama Pilots From Stephanie Savage, Richard LaGravenese, Chris Keyser & Tom Donaghy

abclogoABC has handed pilot orders to four more dramas, Astronaut Wives Club, written by Stephanie Savage; an untitled project from Richard LaGravenese in the vein of Dangerous Liaisons; Warriors, written by WGAW president Chris Keyser; and Tom Donaghy’s Agatha. All four come from ABC sibling ABC Studios.

The Astronastronaut-wives-clubaut Wives Club, from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire and Michael London’s Groundswell Productions, initially was eyed as a potential limited series. Based on Lily Koppel’s best-selling novel published last summer, it was written by Savage in her first TV writing effort since co-creating Gossip Girl with Schwartz. Set in the 1960s with a modern feel, The Astronaut Wives Club tells the real story of the women who stood beside some of the biggest heroes in American history during the height of the space race. Savage, Schwartz and Fake Empire’s President of Television Len Goldstein executive produce with London. This is Fake Empire’s first pilot order under the company’s overall deal at ABC Studios.

The untitled Richard LaGravenese project is set in New York and revolves around the love and rivalry between two equally matched, powerful socialites who play out their obsessive attraction and seduction of each other through their manipulation of others. LaGravenese exec produces with Erwin Stoff, Ilene Staple and Wren Arthur.
