Paradigm Adds Agent In Artist Marketing

Marna Palmer has joined Paradigm as an agent in the Artist Marketing Department, where she will focus on celebrity endorsements and marketing opportunities for the agency’s clients. She has spent the past five years as a marketing/commercial/endorsements agent at Abrams Artists.

UTA Signs Paul Bettany

EXCLUSIVE: Paul Bettany, who’s currently starring in the Screen Gems genre thriller Priest, has just signed with UTA. Since his breakthrough on Gangster No. 1, the Royal Shakespeare Company-trained Bettany has starred in a wide range of films, from The Da Vinci Code to A Beautiful Mind, Wimbledon, Master & Commander, Creation and The Tourist. He next stars in the Sundance Film Festival financial-crisis drama Margin Call, coming in the fall. Bettany had been repped by WME, and he continues to be managed by Melanie Greene at Affirmative Entertainment and UK-based Independent.

CANNES: WME Signs Norwegian Director Morten Tyldum

WME has signed Morten Tyldum, whose Headhunters is playing at Cannes. The Norway-born helmer’s heist thriller is based on Jo Nesbo’s bestselling novel and produced by Yellow Bird, the team behind The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series. Yellow Bird screened his film Friday; Magnolia Pictures already has purchased North American rights.

UTA Signs Dennis Haysbert

EXCLUSIVE: Dennis Haysbert, former star of Fox’s 24 and CBS’ The Unit, has signed with UTA. He was previously at ICM. On the feature side, Haysbert co-stars in the Sundance entry The Details, which was picked up by the Weinstein Co, and voices a lead in the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 2. He is currently in Baltimore shooting the indie drama Learning Uncle Vernon. On stage, Haysbert made his Broadway debut last summer in David Mamet’s Race.

Calling All Alternative TV Agents — Or Not

N.S. Bienstock is looking to hire a reality TV agent and is calling every midlevel-and-above rep in that specialty to defect. Just one problem: no one wants to work for that nightmare Richard Leibner. The agency still hasn’t recovered from the 2009 loss of alternative TV stand-out Eric Wattenberg to CAA. And, by the way, Paradigm recently was talking to Bienstock about joining forces but there’s nothing concrete to report yet.
