Syfy’s ‘Alphas’ Cancelled After Two Seasons

Syfy’s drama Alphas is ending its run after two seasons. “Syfy has decided not to renew Alphas for a third season,” the network said in a statement. “We’ve been proud to present this entertaining, high-quality series for two seasons and to work with an incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creatives as well as our partners at BermanBraun Television. We’d like to thank the show’s dedicated regular viewers for their tremendous support.” Alphas, from BermanBraun, Universal Cable Prods. and creators Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, followed a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. The series starring David Strathairn was most recently run by Bruce Miller who executive produced Season 2 alongside Penn and BermanBraun’s Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. Bruce Miller Joins Syfy Series ‘Alphas’ As New Showrunner

EXCLUSIVE: Syfy’s drama Alphas is heading into Season 2 with a new showrunner. Bruce Miller has joined the series starring David Strathairn as executive producer/showrunner. He replaces Ira Steven Behr, who is departing after running the series in its first season. Alphas, from BermanBraun, Universal Cable Prods and co-creators Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. It was renewed for a second season earlier this month. Miller will serve as an executive producer on the show alongside Penn and BermanBraun’s Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. Karnow serves as co-executive producer. The gig extends Miller’s relationship with Syfy. He most recently served as an executive producer/showrunner on the network’s series Eureka, which wrapped production on its fifth and final season last month. ICM-repped Miller’s series credits also includes ER, Medium and 4400.

Syfy has renewed freshman drama Alphas for a second season with a 13-episode order. The series, from BermanBraun, Universal Cable Prods. and writers Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, has been a solid ratings performer airing behind veteran Warehouse 13. Alphas, whose Season 2 will premiere in 2012, stars David Strathairn and follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. Penn is executive producing with showrunner Ira Steven Behr and BermanBraun’s Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein.

Ira Steven Behr To Run SyFy Series ‘Alphas’

EXCLUSIVE: Star Trek veteran Ira Steven Behr has joined Syfy’s newly picked up series Alphas as executive producer/showrunner. Alphas, from BermanBraun, Universal Cable Prods. and writers Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, stars David Strathairn and follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. Behr will serve as an executive producer alongside Penn and BermanBraun’s Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. The series’ 90-minute pilot was directed by Lost director-producer Jack Bender. Behr has an extensive sci-fi background. He worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. On Deep Space Nine, he rose to executive producer/showrunner and wrote a total of 53 episodes, more than any other numbers. Behr also served as executive producer/showrunner on USA’s sci-fi drama The 4400 as well as on the second season of Starz’s series Crash, based on the Oscar-winning feature. Syfy had ordered 2 pilots set in the world of real-life superheros, Alphas and 3 Inches. Alphas has been picked up to series while 3 Inches is being reworked and remains in contention.

Syfy Picks Up ‘Alphas’ Pilot To Series, ‘Three Inches’ Still Alive

UPDATED: It came down to the wire for Syfy’s two drama pilots about people with special abilities, Alphas and Three Inches, which were both in serious contention for a series pickup. Syfy just made its final decision, giving Alphas an 11-episode order in addition to the 90-minute pilot. Production is slated to begin in Toronto early next year for a summer 2011 debut.

Alphas, from BermanBraun, UCP and writers Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, stars David Strathairn and follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills.
