Amy Ryan To Co-Star In Steven Spielberg’s Cold War Pic; Alan Alda & Two Others In TalksAmy Ryan will co-star opposite Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg’s untitled Cold War Spy thriller for DreamWorks. Production is set to begin in September and will be shot on location in New York and Berlin ahead of its October 16, 2015 release date. In talks for roles are Alan Alda, Boardwalk Empire‘s Billy Magnussen and The Knick‘s Eve Hewson. Mark Rylance is already aboard.

The pic is based on the true story of James Donovan (Hanks), the CIA attorney who is thrust behind the Iron Curtain when he is sent to negotiate the release of captured American U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers. The Coen brothers wrote the 1960s-set screenplay off Matt Charman’s original script. Ryan, repped by Gersh and attorney Dave Feldman, will play Donovan’s wife. Read More »

Amy Ryan Gears Up For ‘Monster Trucks’; Blake Jenner Creeps Into ‘Crawlspace;’ Pablo Larrain Helms ‘Scarface’

Amy RyanAmy Ryan has landed a role in Paramount’s live-action/CGI hybrid Monster Trucks. Plot details for director Chris Wedge’s film are being kept under wraps, but Ryan will play a the single mom trying to make ends meet while raising her teenage son. Her credits include Clear History and Breathe In and she recently wrapped the feature Don Verdean. Ryan next will be seen in Birdman and Devil’s Knot. TV credits include The Office, In Treatment and The Wire. She is repped by Gersh and attorney Dave Feldman.

Blake JennerBlake Jenner has been cast in New Line’s Crawlspace. Michael Vartan stars a widower with a daughter who gets remarried and, after a rough patch of unemployment, gets the chance for a new start in a new house in the suburbs. But the house has a dark secret. Jenner will play Tommy, who discovers the horrors hidden within the house’s walls. Principal photography was set to begin today in Los Angeles. Jenner is a regular on Fox’s Glee, following his Season 2 win on The Glee Project. He is repped by Mosaic and CAA.

Chilean helmer Pablo Larrain (No) will direct the Scarface remake for Universal Pictures.

Amy Ryan Joins Alejandro Gonzalez-Inarritu Comedy ‘Birdman’

Amy Ryan is joining the cast of Birdman, the Alejandro Gonzalez-Inarritu-directed comedy that is currently shooting in New York. She joins Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis and Andrea Riseborough in the cast for Fox Searchlight and New Regency. Keaton plays a washed-up actor best known for playing an iconic superhero who puts together a play on Broadway based on a short story by Raymond Carver. Unfortunately, the ex-superhero’s plans to soar again are threatened by his egotistical lead stage actor (Norton). Ryan will play Keaton’s character’s long suffering ex-wife.

Birdman is produced by Inarritu and John Lesher. The director wrote the script with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo. Ryan most recently wrapped the Greg Mottola-directed Clear History, the Atom Egoyan-directed Devil’s Knot, Drake Doremus’ Breathe In and The Tomb. She’s repped by Gersh and Dave Feldman.

‘Like Crazy’ Helmer Drake Doremus Sets Cast For Next Film

EXCLUSIVE: Drake Doremus, who directed the Sundance sensation Like Crazy, has set Guy Pearce, Amy Ryan and Felicity Jones for his next film. Shooting on the untitled pic begins in a month and takes place in upstate New York. It’s about love, fidelity, marriage and music. Indian Paintbrush is fully financing. Jones made her breakthrough starring in Like Crazy, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Indian Paintbrush teamed with Paramount Pictures to acquire distribution rights on the picture, which will be released this fall.

Doremus wrote the script for the new film with Ben York Jones, his Like Crazy collaborator. The film will be produced by Jonathan Schwartz and Andrea Sperling of Super Crispy Entertainment, along with Steven Rales and Mark Roybal of Indian Paintbrush. Michael Pruss is co-producer. Doremus is repped by UTA, Pearce and Jones by CAA and Luber Roklin, while Ryan’s deal was made by Gersh.

HBO Sets Return Date For ‘In Treatment’

The third season of the HBO drama series In Treatment will premiere with two back-to-back half-hour episodes on Monday Oct. 25 and two more episodes on Tuesday Oct. 26. A reminder, this is the first completely original season of the therapy drama. The Israeli series it is based on ran for 2 seasons. Joining Gabriel Byrne, who returns as Dr. Paul Weston, are new cast members Irrfan Kahn, Debra Winger, Dane DeHaan and Amy Ryan.
