EXCLUSIVE: Andy Fickman has been set by Millennium Films to direct My Owner’s Wedding, a romantic comedy about two eligible young women, the guy they both want, and his dog. The latter will go to any length to make sure his owner winds up with the right girl. Fickman is coming off Parental Guidance and helmed the hits Race To Witch Mountain and The Game Plan. He is also exec producer and is directing the Disney Channel’s series Liv And Maddie and is producing and directing the Off-Broadway production Heathers The Musical, based on the cult teen movie. Fickman is directing Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, with Kevin James reprising for Sony, and Fickman’s producing the self-explanatory Scouts Vs. Zombies for Paramount.
My Owner’s Wedding was scripted by Robert Cary (Anything But Love) and Jonathan Tolins, whose Buyer And Cellar is playing off-Broadway. The film is produced by Cary, Tolins and Mark Gill, with Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Alan Gasmer serving as executive producers. Fickman is repped by WME, Management 360 and Hansen, Jacobson.
BREAKING: CBS Films has set Andy Fickman to helm The Exes, the romantic comedy based on the Jane Moore novel The Ex Files. Kelly Bowe wrote the script and Leonard Goldberg is producing. The plot: The ex-girlfriend of the groom reluctantly agrees to attend his destination wedding for closure and for friendship. Once there, she finds herself trapped at an island resort filled with couples’ exes. Old flames are rekindled, new romances are born and complete chaos ensues. “I absolutely love this project,” said Fickman, who most recently helmed Parental Guidance. “It’s a fun and fresh unique perspective within the romantic comedy world. Every time I mention the story to someone they immediately respond with how it relates to their own life — which makes this such a universal experience… anyone who has loved before has lost before.” Fickman is repped by WME and Management 360, and CBS execs Mark Ross and Alex Ginno are overseeing the project.
EXCLUSIVE: Benita Robledo has landed the lead in MTV’s half-hour pilot presentation Patito Feo. Meanwhile, sitcom veteran Amy Pietz has been tapped to co-star opposite Skyler Samuels in the ABC Family drama pilot Nine Lives.
Based on the hugely successful Argentinean format, Patito Feo centers on a Mexican teenage girl (Robledo) who moves to Florida with her mother and grandmother only to discover that the reality of high school in America is nothing like she expected when she crosses paths with the Queen Bee and accidentally sets off a war at school. Easy A scribe Bert V. Royal wrote the adaptation and is executive producing with Teri Weinberg. Andy Fickman is directing. Robledo is best known for her recurring role on Gossip Girl.
Based on Alloy’s Nine Lives of Chloe King series of 3 young-adult novels by Celia Thomson, Nine Lives centers on Chloe King (Samuels), a teenager with heightened abilities (super speed, agility, hearing…claws) who discovers she’s being pursued by a mysterious figure. Pietz will play Chloe’s adoptive mother and protector, a slightly-harried, successful real estate agent who has raised Chloe as a single mother since her husband abandoned them over ten years ago. Caroline in the City alumna Pietz recently recurred on The Office.
