MTV Pilot ‘Patito Feo’ Casts Lead While ABC Family Pilot ‘Nine Lives’ Finds Co-Lead

Nellie Andreeva

EXCLUSIVE: Benita Robledo has landed the lead in MTV’s half-hour pilot presentation Patito Feo. Meanwhile, sitcom veteran Amy Pietz has been tapped to co-star opposite Skyler Samuels in the ABC Family drama pilot Nine Lives.

Based on the hugely successful Argentinean format, Patito Feo centers on a Mexican teenage girl  (Robledo) who moves to Florida with her mother and grandmother only to discover that the reality of high school in America is nothing like she expected when she crosses paths with the Queen Bee and accidentally sets off a war at school. Easy A scribe Bert V. Royal wrote the adaptation  and is executive producing with Teri Weinberg. Andy Fickman is directing. Robledo is best known for her recurring role on Gossip Girl.

Based on Alloy’s Nine Lives of Chloe King series of 3 young-adult novels by Celia Thomson, Nine Lives centers on Chloe King (Samuels), a teenager with heightened abilities (super speed, agility, hearing…claws) who discovers she’s being pursued by a mysterious figure. Pietz will play Chloe’s adoptive mother and protector, a slightly-harried, successful real estate agent who has raised Chloe as a single mother since her husband abandoned them over ten years ago. Caroline in the City alumna Pietz recently recurred on The Office.
