FilmDistrict’s ‘Are We Officially Dating?’ Now Titled ‘That Awkward Moment’

FilmDistrict has changed the name of its Zac Efron-starrer. Formerly called Are We Officially Dating?, the pic which also stars Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, is now titled That Awkward Moment. It’s still set to bow wide on January 31, 2014.

SANTA MONICA, CA June 17, 2013 – FilmDistrict announced today that ithas acquired U.S. distribution rights to ARE WE OFFICIALLY DATING? directed by Tom Gormican and starring Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller.

Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen of Treehouse Pictures produced, along with Scott Aversano and Andrew O’Connor. Treehouse Pictures financed the comedy. Executive producers are Jason Barrett, Manu Gargi, John Friedberg, Michael Simkin, Peter Schlessel and Lia Buman. FilmDistrict plans to distribute the release wide in the U.S. on January 31, 2014.

‘Cult’s Jessica Lucas Joins ‘Are We Officially Dating?’

Jessica Lucas has signed on to Are We Officially Dating? The former Melrose Place reboot star replaces Deborah Ann Woll in the romantic comedy. After joining the movie last October, the True Blood star dropped out of the film due to scheduling in November. Zac Efron and Imogen Poots also star in the film about three male friends in New York City who make a pledge to stay single just as each of them starts to fall in love. Lucas plays Vera, the unfaithful wife of Michael B. Jordan’s Mikey character. The Canadian actress will also soon be seen as the lead in The CW’s Cult, which debuts on February 19. Tom Gormican is directing Are We Officially Dating? from his own script. Treehouse Pictures’ Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen are producing with Scott Aversano and Andrew O’Connor. Bill Block, John Friedberg, Michael Simkin, Jason Barrett and Manu Gargi are executive producing. Jessica Lucas is repped by The Gersh Agency and Thruline Entertainment.

EXCLUSIVE: Imogen Poots has signed onto the cast of Are We Officially Dating? She will star opposite Zac Efron in the romantic comedy about three male friends in New York City who make a pledge to stay single just as each of them starts to fall in love. Tom Gormican is directing from a script he wrote QED International is handling international sales at AFM this year. Treehouse Pictures’ Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen are producing with Scott Aversano and Andrew O’Connor. Bill Block, John Friedberg, Michael Simkin, Jason Barrett and Manu Gargi are executive producing. Poots, who recently joined DreamWorks Studios’ Need For Speed, is repped by CAA.

EXCLUSIVE: Zac Efron has a new co-star in Are We Officially Dating? Deborah Ann Woll, who plays vampire Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood, has signed up for the romantic comedy, which follows three male friends in New York City who make a pledge to stay single just as each of them starts to fall in love. Woll’s character is the ex-wife of one of the trio at the center of the film, which Tom Gormican is directing from a script he wrote. Production starts next month. Woll, who recently appeared in Ruby Sparks, is repped by CAA.

Zac Efron To Star In ‘Are We Officially Dating?’

Zac Efron will star in the romantic comedy Are We Officially Dating, which Tom Gormican wrote and will direct for TreeHouse Pictures. Script, which made the 2010 Black List, concerns three friends in New York City who make a pact to remain single just as they each start to fall in love. Production begins in Manhattan this fall.

Treehouse Pictures’ Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen are producing with Scott Aversano and Andrew O’Connor. Michael Simkin, Jason Barrett, and Manu Gargi are executive producing. QED International is handling international sales. Gormican is working on a pilot with Greg Daniels and Tracy Katsky, and recently sold Bad Form to Warner Bros and Save The Date to Sony with Neil Moritz. WME and 3 Arts rep Gormican while CAA and Alchemy rep Efron.
