TLC’s ‘Breaking Amish’ Spin-Off Debuts Sharply Down From Original’s Finale

Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah may have worn out their welcome. Sunday’s debut of TLC’s Breaking Amish: Brave New World garnered 2.14 million viewers and a 0.9 rating among Adults 19-49. That’s way down from the 3.1 million viewers who watched the September 9 premiere of the fish out of water Breaking Amish last year. That show was the highest-rated debut in two years for the network in total viewers and in the 25-54 demo. Sunday’s spin-off debut is also nearly 45% down from the 3.8 million (1.7 rating) who tuned in for the season 1 finale on November 13. Brave New World picks up the original cast’s stories nine months after the first season ended. A second season of Breaking Amish, with a whole new cast, is scheduled to debut later this year.

Despite proving a ratings hit with 3.2 million viewers on average watching the first season, the original Breaking Amish was repeatedly hit with allegations of fakery, fraud and slight of hand almost from its premiere. ‘Breaking Amish’ Spin-Off Coming In May From TLC; Season 2 To Premiere This Summer

TLC announced today that Breaking Amish: Brave New World will debut May 12 at 10 PM, with a separate Season 2 of the original series to come sometime in the summer. The spinoff of the controversial Breaking Amish will reunite the cast from the first season of the reality series as they make new lives for themselves in Florida. Besides bringing Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah back together, TLC also said today a second season of Breaking Amish will begin production this spring. The series will have a “new group of young Amish and Mennonite men and women who are eager to live a life beyond the limited upbringings they’ve known,” according to the network.
