Fox International Productions has boarded Amapola, the feature helming debut of Argentinian opera and theater director and Oscar-winning art director Eugenio Zanetti. Production is underway in El Tigre, Argentina on the film that Zanetti also wrote and which stars Camilla Belle as the title character. Also starring are Francois Arnaud, Geraldine Chaplin, Lito Cruz and Leonor Benedetto.
The film is described as a romantic reimagining of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream set against the turbulent backdrops of the 1962 Argentinian military coup and the 1982 war for the Falkland Islands. The Fox International Production is produced by Rodrigo H. Vila and Dalila Zaritzky via Cinema 7. Twentieth Century Fox will distribute the film in Latin America. Belle is repped by Untitled, UTA and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
EXCLUSIVE: Camilla Belle has left WME and has signed with UTA in a team led by Theresa Peters for representation in all areas. The American-born actress, who is part Brazilian, is currently attached to Legendary/Warner Bros’ upcoming film Paradise Lost directed by Alex Proyas. Belle broke out in the highy regarded indie The Ballad Of Jack And Rose and starred in Adrift. She continues to be represented by manager Deborah Gould and attorney Marcy Morris.
EXCLUSIVE: I hear that Camilla Belle is Legendary Entertainment and Alex Proyas’ choice for the lead role of Eve in Paradise Lost. She would join Bradley Cooper as Lucifer and Benjamin Walker, who plays the archangel Michael in the action epic battle between good and evil that is inspired by the John Milton poem. Belle starred in 10,000 B.C. and before that played Daniel Day-Lewis’ daughter in The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Let’s see if her deal works, but this is a role a lot of young actresses wanted. She sparks the war that began all wars for the future of mankind. Belle is repped by WME. Warner Bros is distributing and eyeing a fourth quarter 2013 release.
