How I Met Your Mother executive producer Chuck Tatham has signed a two-year overall deal with the studio behind the long-running CBS comedy series, 20th Century Fox TV. The pact will keep him on HIMYM as an executive producer and will allow him to develop. Tatham has a long history with 20th TV that goes back to the studio’s Emmy-winning comedy Arrested Development, on which he served as a co-executive producer. Tatham worked in the same capacity on 20th TV’s Fox comedy series Back To You before joining HIMYM at the beginning of Season 4 in 2008, also as a co-executive producer. He was promoted to executive producer at the beginning of last season. “He is legitimately one of the funniest writers out there but he also has the dexterity to write heart,” which makes him “invaluable to the How I Met Your Mother staff,” 20th TV’s EVP Comedy Development and Animation Jonathan Davis said. “We also think that he is due for his own success.” Securing the top-level writer-producers on HIMYM is important as the series’ creators/executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas also have a new series for next season, Fox’s The Goodwin Games, which the duo created with another HIMYM executive producer, Chris Harris. Tatham is repped by WME, The Collective and attorney Shep Rosenman.
Two more projects have sold to broadcast networks. Fox has bought a multi-camera comedy from How I Met Your Mother executive producer Chuck Tatham and 21 Laps/Adelstein, while NBC has bought a drama from Northern Exposure and St. Elsewhere co-creator Joshua Brand and Peter Horton. Tatham’s 20th TV-produced project is about an estranged couple reunited under less than ideal circumstances. Tatham, repped by WME and The Collective, is writing and will executive produce with Shawn Levy, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements. Brand’s The Other Reality is a show-within-a-show social satire about the life of Eric Bittman, an enormously successful reality show producer and a less-than-successful family man. Brand will write and executive produce with Horton for Universal TV.
EXCLUSIVE: Vin Di Bona and Bruce Gersh’s FishBowl Worldwide Media has begun production on a pilot episode for The Potts, an original animated web series. The show, whose voice cast includes Dave Coulier and Richard Kind, follows a family in search of fame and fortune who will do just about anything to get on reality TV. David & Goliath founder and Illustrator Todd Goldman and How I Met Your Mother executive producer Chuck Tatham created The Potts, which is being executive produced by DiBona, Gersh and FishBowl EVP Creative Affairs Susan Levison. The series will launch on YouTube, where FishBowl’s 2010 Web series CuteWinFail has received 25 million viewers. Talks with additional digital distributors are underway.
