Michelle Monaghan will star with Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan in The Coup, a thriller centered on an American family who moves to Southeast Asia and finds themselves entangled in a violent coup with merciless rebels attacking the city. Devil helmer John Erick Dowdle will direct a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew Dowdle.
Monaghan will play Wilson’s wife in the action thriller, which is scheduled to begin production in October. Crime Scene Pictures’ Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are financing and have teamed up with Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle to produce. Sierra/Affinity will be handling international sales beginning at Cannes while CAA is representing U.S. rights.
ICM-repped Monaghan, who is managed by Frank Frattaroli, recently wrapped Penthouse North and Tomorrow You’re Gone.

BREAKING: The Dario Argento 1977 horror thriller Suspiria has been set for a remake that will be directed by Pineapple Express helmer David Gordon Green from a script he wrote with Chris Gebert. The search is on for Suzie, the young protagonist who travels to Europe to attend a world renowned school. After a series of brutal murders, the young American student learns that the academy is a front for something way more sinister than education. The original had a surreal, psychedelic tone that involved the supernatural, witches and a whole lotta blood.
The remake is backed by Crime Scene Pictures, whose partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are joining forces with producers Francesco Melzi d’Eril (Hotel Rwanda) from Memo Films and Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love) under his First Sun film banner to produce and finance the remake. Rizal Risjad, Silvia Fendi and Philip Elway will executive produce and Lisa Muskat will co-produce. Wild Bunchwill sell foreign at Cannes in May and CAA will make the domestic distribution deal. Production begins in September.

Kate Hudson is set to be cast in Everly, the Crime Scene Pictures project that Joe Lynch is directing. Crime Scene’s Rob Paris and Adam Ripp are producing with Anonymous Content’s Luke Rivett. The plan is for Sierra/Affinity to sell the film at next month’s European Film Market.
