David Cross Set For Fox’s ‘Dead Boss’; ABC’s Richard LaGravenese & CW’s ‘Jane The Virgin’ Add To Casts

Coming off his directorial debutdavidcross2 on Sundance pic Hits, David Cross has been tapped as a guest star on Fox‘s half-hour pilot Dead Boss, from WBTV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. An adaptation of the BBC3 series created by Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh, Dead Boss is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens (Jane Krakowski), who is wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and is forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister to prove her innocence. Cross will play Derek Bridges, the narcissistic, credit-stealing, misogynistic “dead boss”. He is with UTA, BEP and attorney Harris Hartman.

Rachel Dratch Joins Fox Pilot ‘Dead Boss’; Katharine McPhee, Ari Stidham In CBS’ ‘Scorpion’

Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratchracheldratch1 has signed on as a series regular in Fox‘s half-hour pilot Dead Boss, from WBTV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. An adaptation of the BBC3 series created by Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh, Dead Boss is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens (Jane Krakowski), who is wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and is forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister to prove her innocence. Paradigm-repped Dratch will play Christine, Helen’s cellmate, a sunny but emotionally needy arsonist who will help Helen out of anything, except prison.

aristidham1UPDATED: Katharine McPhee (Smash) and Ari Stidham (Anyplace) have joined the cast of CBS‘ drama pilot Scorpion, from writer Nick Santora, director Justin Lin, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. It centers on Walter (Elyes Gabel), an eccentric genius and his international network of super-geniuses who form the last line of defense against the complex threats of the modern age. Robert Patrick co-stars. McPhee will play Paige, a working-class hero and diner waitress who understands geniuses. Stidham, repped by Talent Works, will play Sylvester, a statistics guru with off-the-chart OCD who’s part of the genius team.

sonnenfeldBarry Sonnenfeld is poised to direct Fox‘s half-hour pilot Dead Boss, from WBTV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. An adaptation of the BBC3 series, Dead Boss is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens (Jane Krakowski) wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister (Justine Lupe) to prove her innocence. This marks a reunion for Sonnenfeld and Kaplan — Sonnenfeld directed former agent Kaplan’s first pilot as a producer, ABC comedy Funny In Farsi. The Man In Black helmer most recently directed the CBS’ Beverly Hills Cop pilot last season.

An adaptation of the BBC3 series created by Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh, Dead Boss is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens (Krakowski) wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister to prove her innocence. Lupe, repped by Gersh and Authentic, plays Laura, Helen’s well-intentioned sister who moves into Helen’s condo, takes over Helen’s job and finds herself starting to enjoy living Helen’s life. Patel, repped by Seven Summits, TalentWorks and Gregg Gellman, plays Henry, one of Helen’s co-workers who loves and is obsessed with her and is devastated when Helen receives a guilty verdict.

Jane Krakowski To Topline Fox Comedy Pilot ‘Dead Boss’

Jane Krakowski30 Rock alumna Jane Krakowski has been tapped as the lead of Fox‘s half-hour pilot Dead Boss, from Warner Bros TV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. An adaptation of the BBC3 series created by Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh, Dead Boss is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens (Krakowski) wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister to prove her innocence. The role was played by Horgan in the original series. Krakowski, who recently signed with Brillstein Entertainment, had been fielding multiple offers this pilot season following her seven-year run on 30 Rock, which earned her four Emmy nominations. I hear production of the Dead Boss pilot and potential series is being moved to New York where Krakowski is based. The pilot was written by Patricia Breen who is executive producing with Horgan and Kaplan. UTA-repped Krakowski recently did a guest stint on Modern Family.

Fox Picks Up Comedy Series ‘Weird Loners’, Pilots ‘Dead Boss’ & ‘Sober Companion’

After lengthy negotiations, Fox has given a six-episode order to single-camera comedy Weird Loners, from writer fox-tv-logo__130727010919-275x119Michael Weithorn, who wrote the project on spec and sold it to Fox. It was then laid off at 20th TV, with studio-based director-producer Jake Kasdan coming on board to executive produce alongside Weithorn. Weird Loners is the story of four relationship-phobic people who are unexpectedly thrust into one another’s lives and form an unlikely bond in a townhouse in Queens, NY.

Single-camera Dead Boss, which had a put pilot commitment, hails from  Warner Bros TV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. An adaptation of the BBC3 series created by Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh and starring Horgan, Dead Boss was written by Patricia Breen (Suburgatory). It is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister to prove her innocence. Breen is executive producing with Horgan and Kaplan. This is the fourth Horgan/Kaplan project to go to pilot, following Pulling — also based on a Horgan British series — Bad Mom and Bad Management, all three at ABC.
