Disney XD Orders Comedy Pilot Starring Zach Fox, Taps YouTube Star To Host Series

By | Thursday August 16, 2012 @ 1:11pm PDT
Nellie Andreeva

EXCLUSIVE: Boy-centered channel Disney XD has greenlighted a comedy pilot starring YouTube personality Zach Fox. In it, 18-year-old Fox will play a fictionalized, younger version of himself, Zach Fox, a high-school sophomore who anchors his own show on the school’s student-run TV station. The project combines semi-improvised and gonzo-style man-on-the-street segments in the same outrageous style that Fox uses in his videos. David Nickoll (The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson) executive produces the pilot, which is now casting to begin production in October in Los Angeles. It’s a Laugh Prods. will produce.

Additionally, Fox also will host Disney XD’s upcoming hidden camera prank series, Just Kidding, in which everyday kids pull off humorous pranks on unsuspecting adults. In addition to hosting, in each episode of the Canadian series, slated for fall, Fox himself will do his own prank.

Berwyn, PA native Fox drew the attention of Disney XD programmers with his YouTube videos — improvisational interviews, comedic shorts, musical parodies and several web series including Limelight, The CHeeSe and Stoga Gone Wild. They contacted him for an overall deal and developed the pilot or him. Here is one of Fox’s man-on-the-street bits, in which he often wears thematic costumes. Nickoll is with Paradigm, Principato-Young and Lev Ginsburg.

Comic-Con: Marvel TV Previews New ‘Avengers Assemble,’ ‘Hulk & Agents of S.M.A.S.H.’ & More Joss Whedon’s ‘Astonishing X-Men’

By | Saturday July 14, 2012 @ 11:28am PDT

Marvel is not cancelling The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for Avengers Assemble, the company’s head of Television said today. Instead the upcoming series, which was briefly previewed at Comic-Con this morning, is “the next level,” said Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. The Marvel TV chief announced that after 52 episodes the animated The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is “transitioning out into the new Avengers.” Loeb told fans that the series, rumored to be on the chopping block, was intended almost from the beginning to run for a 52-episode order and that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will “have an epic conclusion.” Loeb told Deadline that the series, which is aired on Disney XD, will end sometime later this year. With that said, the real emphasis on today’s “Marvel Television Presents” panel was on new properties.  To that end, Loeb showed the fans a rough trailer of the upcoming animated Avengers Assemble. Coming next year Avengers Assemble is much darker that Earth’s Mightiest and, as Loeb said repeatedly, derives from the Joss Whedon-directed blockbuster with the same characters, same tech and similar tone. “We’re going to give you the best Avengers we can and that’s a promise from Marvel Television.”
