FilmEngine Options ‘Blacklisted’ Script

EXCLUSIVE: FilmEngine has acquired Blacklisted, a script by Banipal and Benhur Ablakhad. They are keeping the plot under wraps but it is described as a young-skewing buddy caper movie that has a bit of Dirty Dozen and Ocean’s Eleven in it. FilmEngine’s Anthony Rhulen and Navid McIlhargey will produce alongside Josh Weinstock. Devin Andre is overseeing. Producers have begun the search for a director and young international cast.

FilmEngine next releases the Robert De Niro/John Travolta-starrer Killing Season. Weinstock most recently worked at Red Wagon and is now producing via Weinstock Entertainment. The scribes are repped by UTA and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.

FilmEngine Names Gregory Chou COO, Adds Three Veeps

EXCLUSIVE: FilmEngine Entertainment CEO Anthony Rhulen has hired Gregory Chou to be COO. Also hired are Matt Eskander as vice president of Business Development & Finance, David Boorstein as vice president of Television and Devin Andre as Motion Picture Development Director.

The hires come after FilmEngine set longtime New Regency executive Navid McIlhargey to become FilmEngine president. The company has upcoming the crime thriller Evidence and the action film Killing Season, which stars Robert De Niro and John Travolta.

Chou comes to FilmEngine after stints at Paradigm and CAA, where he focused on packaging and financing of feature films Before that he was with Sony and spent seven years in venture capital at Norwest Venture Partners and Morgan Stanley.

Eskander was an agent in the talent and film finance department at Paradigm, after training under Ed Limato at ICM. Boorstein was director of development at Anthony Zuiker’s Dare to Pass, and worked on projects for a number of networks. He co-produces short films for the YouTube channel BlackBoxTV and began as an assistant at Guy Walks Into A Bar. Andre had been at Underground Films and before that Participant Media and CAA.

Navid McIlhargey Named FilmEngine President

LOS ANGELES, CA – May 2, 2012 – FilmEngine Entertainment announced today that Navid McIlhargey has joined as the company’s President, reporting to FilmEngine’s CEO and founder Anthony Rhulen. McIlhargey, who most recently served as Senior Vice President at New Regency, will focus on and oversee all aspects of creative development and production for the company. In addition to the hiring of McIlhargey, FilmEngine also announced that it has closed a new, seven-figure film development fund with Italia Film International to option and develop material. FilmEngine seeks larger scale, commercial projects with franchise potential across a variety of genres and currently has 10 films and 15 television projects in development.

The LA-based company has also secured a substantial equity investment to pursue its growth initiatives and finance production.

In making the announcement, Rhulen commented, “Navid is well-respected, hard-working and extremely passionate about the business of making movies. He has incredibly deep relationships with filmmakers and executives at the highest level throughout the industry.”

McIlhargey added, “After New Regency, I was excited to have a chance to help grow a business. With Anthony, we have the ability to finance development and production, which opens up an unlimited number of opportunities.”
