EXCLUSIVE: In what would be be his first comedy series gig in almost 20 years, Cheech Marin is set to co-star on Fox’s half-hour pilot Outnumbered. Meanwhile, Harry Hamlin has been tapped as a recurring on Lifetime’s Army Wives.
Inspired by the BBC sitcom, Outnumbered, which is being directed by Larry Charles, revolves around one set of parents Sue (Ana Ortiz) and Pete (Cliff Chamberlain) who are often overwhelmed by their three children. Marin will play Sue’s dad, who is taking a pharmacopoeia of prescription pills and believes that sometimes the kids could use a good swat. Marin’s only major previous comedy series gig was his role on the Golden Girls spinoff The Golden Palace. The Nash Bridges alum recently did an arc on ABC’s Lost and co-starred in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete.
Recurring on the upcoming fifth season of Lifetime’s military family drama Army Wives, Hamlin will reprise the role of Professor Chandler, a public advocacy lawyer, which he originated in a 2-episode guest stint last season. L.A. Law alum Hamlin is with Fortitude and the Independent Group.
EXCLUSIVE: Ugly Betty alumna Ana Ortiz is set as the female lead of Fox’s off-cycle comedy pilot Outnumbered, which is being directed by Larry Charles. of three, a multi-tasker by
necessity and somewhat of a hot-head. The project is being produced by 20th TV, Chernin Entertainment and Hat Trick Prods, the British company behind the original series. Like fellow Ugly Betty co-star Becki Newton, Ortiz was tapped for a new project, ABC’s drama pilot True Blue, shortly after the network announced the end of Betty‘s four-year run. She has been in demand ever since, with several projects in development for next fall trying to attach her as a star. Ortiz is with Gersh, manager Geordie Frey and attorney Brad Small.
Fox is taking a second stab at launching a U.S. version of the British comedy series Outnumbered. The network has handed out an off-cycle pilot order to the single-camera comedy from writers Barbara Wallace and Thomas R. Wolfe. It’s being produced by 20th TV, Chernin Entertainment, and Hat Trick Prods, the British company behind the original series created by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin.
