elbaumBREAKING: Gary Sanchez Productions, the film and television production company founded by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy, has hatched a sister label. Gloria Sanchez Productions will generate female-driven film and TV projects. Longtime Gary Sanchez exec Jessica Elbaum will head the label and will court female voices for its projects.

“When Jessica came to us with this idea, we thought it was fantastic,” said McKay and Ferrell. “She has worked with some of the great female voices in comedy and has proven herself as a gifted producer who has a keen eye for material.

bachElbaum has been with Gary Sanchez since its formation in 2006 and she has been a producer on such films as Step Brothers, The Other Guys, Casa De Mi Padre and Bachelorette, the latter of which fits the template for the kind of fare Gloria Sanchez wants to make. She also guided Ferrell’s 2008 stage show You’re Welcome America, to Broadway for its limited run and was exec producer of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and is in post on the Shira Piven-helmed comedy Welcome To Me, which stars Kristen Wiig, Wes Bentley, James Marsden, and Tim Robbins.

Justin Malen has been hired to rewrite The Manny for Gary Sanchez and Red Wagon at Sony. Malen is hot off his  script Bastards, which sold last summer to Paramount with Montecito & H2F producing. The Manny is an R-rated comedy about an unemployed (and soon-to-be homeless) recent college grad who, after exhausting all the normal ways of getting a job in the financial world, actually tries nannying his way into one. He figures that if he becomes the manny for the kid of a Wall Street magnate, it will lead to a real job. In the meantime, he’ll be getting paid to live like a prince on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He’s repped by Verve.

2929 Productions Funds ‘Tim And Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie’; Here’s Hoping The Movie’s Funnier Than The Press Release

Mike Fleming

2929 Productions is financing Tim And Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, a comedy by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim that’s being produced by Funny Or Die creators at Gary Sanchez Productions. The film company sent out a press release with what I felt was a lame attempt to humorously paint itself as the priciest film ever. There are interesting details, like that 2929 money men Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner will appear in the film. I invited them to furnish some serious details this morning, but they never came. So Deadline readers can eyeball the original knee-slapper of a press release and decide: Funny or Die?

2929 Productions with Gary Sanchez Productions and Funny or Die Begin PRODUCTION ON Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie

MAGNOLIA PICTURES WILL DISTRIBUTE THE EPIC FILM, GREAT JOB!
Los Angeles – March 14, 2011 – 2929 Productions announced today it is financing Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, the feature film debut of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, with Gary Sanchez Productions and its Funny or Die Films banner co-producing. Heidecker and Wareheim will write, direct and star in what is undoubtedly the most expensive production in cinematic history. In addition, 2929’s sister company Magnolia Pictures has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the film, which is shooting throughout the month of March in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, California.

Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie is a star-studded comedy created by the prolific team of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, best known for their five seasons of

Famke Janssen Bewitches ‘Hansel & Gretel’

Mike Fleming

Big day for casting female fairy tale villains. Famke Janssen will play the leader of the witches in the Tommy Wirkola-directed Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters at Paramount Pictures. She joins Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the title characters who, 15 years after their narrow fairy tale escape from the gingerbread house, become specialized bounty-hunters looking to take down the witches that almost killed them. Janssen takes the job the same day that Julia Roberts closed to play the Evil Queen in Relativity Media’s The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. Gary Sanchez is producing the witch project. Janssen just wrapped her scripting/directing debut on Bringing Up Bobby. She’s repped by CAA and Brookside Artists.
