Warner Bros will release MGM‘s If I Stay on August 22. It will face off against Weinstein/Dimension’s crime pic Sin City: A Dame To Kill For and TriStar’s sports drama When The Game Stands Tall. R.J. Cutler directs the adaptation of the Gayle Forman novel, which follows a teenager who is in a coma after a car accident that devastates her family. Chloe Moretz, Mireille Enos and Jamie Blackley star.
EXCLUSIVE: MGM‘s If I Stay has added Joshua Leonard (Humpday) as the drama heads into production next week. Leonard just wrapped another pic for MGM, the Jason Blum and Ryan Murphy-produced horror The Town That Dreaded Sundown. He joins If I Stay playing Denny, the ex-punk rocker dad to Chloe Grace Moretz‘s Mia, a 17-year-old classical music prodigy who’s forced to choose between life and death after an accident kills her entire family. The Killing‘s Mireille Enos is onboard as Mia’s mother in the Gayle Forman bestseller adaptation which R.J. Cutler is directing. Leonard’s upcoming projects include HBO’s True Detective and the Polsky Brothers’ The Motel Life. In early 2014 he’ll direct Behold My Heart from his own co-written script. Leonard is repped by Silver Lining Entertainment and Bob Myman.
Project X‘s Thomas Mann has joined the cast of RKO’s Barely Lethal, opposite Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba, Sophie Turner, and Samuel L. Jackson. Steinfeld plays a teen assassin who yearns for a normal life in the action-comedy produced by Brett Ratner. Jamie Blackley (Snow White And The Huntsman, The Fifth Estate) has snagged the male lead in MGM‘s book adaptation If I Stay. He’ll play Adam opposite Chloe Moretz in the pic directed by R.J. Cutler, based on Gayle Forman’s YA novel about a comatose teenager who has an out-of-body experience in the hospital and is faced with choosing between living a difficult life or giving up altogether. Blackley, an Isle of Man native, next stars in the Bryan Singer-produced uwantme2killhim? He is repped by WME, United Agents in the UK and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
The Weinstein Co.’s lit adaptation The Giver has added 16-year-old Odeya Rush to its cast. The actress, seen in Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green, joins Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, and Brenton Thwaites in the dystopian tale adapted from Lois Lowry’s novel about Jonas (Thwaites), a young man who is chosen to receive memories of life before emotion was wiped from society. Israel-born Rush will play Fiona, the best friend and love interest to Jonas. She is repped by Gersh, Magnolia Entertainment and attorney Rick Genow.

EXCLUSIVE: Mireille Enos is in talks to join Chloe Moretz in MGM’s If I Stay for director RJ Cutler. The film, an adaptation of the Gayle Forman novel, follows a teenager who is in a coma after a car accident that devastates her family. Enos will play ‘Kat,’ the girl’s free-spirited mother who is fiercely passionate about her family and rock music.
Enos recently completed production on Season 3 of AMC’s The Killing, and World War Z. Up next, she stars in the Atom Egoyan-directed Devil’s Knot, which will premiere in Toronto. She also has two films in the pipeline: Sabotage, due out in late January 2014, and Queen Of The Night, opposite Ryan Reynolds. She is repped by CAA, Gartner/Green Entertainment at attorney Mitch Smelkinson.
Now that it has secured rights to If I Stay, MGM is moving forward with the pic, which Chloe Moretz has committed to topline and R.J. Cutler is set to direct. Based on Gayle Forman’s 2009 young-adult novel, the thriller centers on a teenager (Moretz) who is in a coma after a car wreck that decimates her family. She has an out-of-body experience in the hospital and is faced with the choice between a continuing what will be a difficult life or simply giving up. Additional casting is underway, with a late-October start planned in Vancouver. The project continues MGM’s recent tie-up with Moretz, who stars in the studio’s Carrie remake that is set for a pre-Halloween release. She’s onscreen next in Kick-Ass 2.
