EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has just learned that Amy Israel is out as EVP of production at New Regency even though she was known to have excellent taste in material. Israel joined New Regency in 2008 after heading up Paramount Vantage production and acquisitions. She’ll now serve as an executive producer on the company’s Now, director Andrew Niccol’s scifi film (aka I’m Mortal) starring Justin Timberlake, Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, and Johnny Galecki. She’s produced before and wanted to get back to her filmmaking roots.
The Big Bang Theory has made Johnny Galecki a hot property, and now he’s in final negotiations to star in New Regency’s untitled sci-fi movie from Andrew Niccol that used to be called I’m Mortal. He’s joining already-announced Justin Timberlake, Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy in a not-so-distant future in which the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency with which people pay for things. Galecki will be playing Timberlake’s best friend. He’s repped by CAA and Untitled. Eric Newman, Marc Abraham, Kristel Laiblin and Andrew David are producing.
A roundup of what else happened today on the deal front: HBO and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are determined to show the versatility of Paul Giamatti. He played American patriot John Adams in the miniseries that won 13 Emmys for Playtone and HBO. Now, they’ve got him playing Russian leader Nikita Khrushchev in K Blows Top, an adaption of the Peter Carlson book that is being scripted as a telepic by Paul Bernbaum. Project was brought
