EXCLUSIVE: So far this Emmy campaign season we’ve seen the usual phalanx of billboards, mailed screeners, a witty public transit banner by Showtime for Shameless’ category change and a food truck from Fox comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine handing out free coffee and treats around L.A. Now we have what might be the first Emmy FYC trailer, at least as far as we can recall. Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer hopes to score some first-time nominations for the show’s second season by going for voters in a star-studded movie-style preview. With Inside renewed for a third season, Schumer will have a busy year — she is heading from the small screen to the big screen for her feature debut in the Judd Apatow-helmed comedy Trainwreck, which is set to be released by Universal on July 24, 2015. Comedy Central has picked up to series Another Period, a spoof of a Keeping Up With The Kardashians-like reality show set in Victorian times, and Idiotsitter, a TV version of the digital series. The network also has renewed the well-received original series Inside Amy Schumer for a third season as well as freshmen Review and TripTank for a second season. In addition, Comedy Central has ordered five original digital series: 300 Sunnyside, New Timers, Pie Guys, Roustabout With Kurt Braunohler and Team Tiger Awesome to premiere later this year. EXCLUSIVE: Always on the lookout for actresses with breakout potential for R-rated comedies, Judd Apatow thinks he has found a winner in Amy Schumer, and Universal Pictures agrees. The studio has optioned an untitled script that Schumer is writing as a star vehicle for herself. Apatow, who as producer guided early turns from Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids and Lena Dunham in HBO’s Girls, is producing through his Universal-based Apatow Productions. He is working with Schumer to develop the story and shape the script.

Schumer first came on the radar with standout turns on Comedy Central roasts of Roseanne Barr and Charlie Sheen. That led the network to launch her as writer/star and exec producer of the series Inside Amy Schumer, which premiered to Comedy Central’s highest ratings this year. Before that, she starred in the hourlong special, Mostly Sex Stuff for Comedy Central. Schumer and Apatow are represented by UTA and manager Jimmy Miller of Mosaic.

Comedy Central‘s latest original series, Inside Amy Schumer, debuted last night to 1.6 million total viewers and 1.2 million Adults 18-49 (1.1 rating) and a 2.4 rating among Men 18-34. The show starring comedian Amy Schumer who, through a series of scripted vignettes, stand-up comedy, and man-on-the-street interviews, explores topics revolving around sex and relationships, benefited from a strong lead-in from Tosh.0 (2.4 million, 1.6 in 18-49). For its three premiere night plays, Inside Amy Schumer averaged 3 million viewers and was streamed nearly 250,000 times prior to the premiere. According to Comedy Central, Inside Amy Schumer logged the best new series premiere on the network this year across all key demographics. Given that the 2013 Comedy Central series that had already debuted, Nathan For You, The Jeselnik Offensive and Kroll Show, all have already been renewed, it is safe to assume that Inside Amy Schumer will get a second-season pickup soon. It would be the first successful Comedy Central show with a female lead since the Sarah Silverman Program. The success of Schumer’s series is not a fluke — her Amy Schumer: Mostly Sex Stuff stand-up special became Comedy Central’s second-highest rated special of 2012.
