Relativity Pencils Jack Reynor Into Lineup As Star Of Biopic On Slugger Josh HamiltonEXCLUSIVE: Casey Affleck has found a young star he hopes will play Josh Hamilton, the slugger who recovered from a drug descent to become a baseball superstar now clubbing homers for the Los Angeles Angels. After a lengthy search, the writer-director has set his sights on Jack Reynor, the What Richard Did star who’ll next be seen co-starring in this week’s tentpole release Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

Worldwide Premiere Of "Transformers: Age Of Extinction"In November 2012, Relativity acquired rights to Hamilton’s incredible life story for a feature film, closing a deal with Hamilton; the book he co-authored, Beyond Belief: Finding The Strength To Come Back; and with Affleck to write and direct. I am a sucker for those inspirational sports films, from The Blind Side to The Rookie and Brian’s Song, and there is certainly one to be made about rising from the depths of addiction. Hamilton overcame a crack cocaine addiction to become one of the most feared sluggers in baseball, something that seemed impossible when he was so rock bottom that his wife kicked him out of the house and he was relegated to cleaning toilets and mowing the grass at a baseball training facility. Jack Reynor, Toni Collette Join Irish Indie ‘Glassland’

By | Monday December 16, 2013 @ 6:25am PST

jack_reynor_584454Glassland is the second feature from Irish director Gerard Barrett, who made this year’s drama Pilgrim Hill. He starts shooting on the new film January 8 with Toni Collette, Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age Of Extinction), Will Poulter (We’re The Millers) and Michael Smiley (A Field In England) aboard. The Dublin-set story follows a young taxi driver (Reynor) who gets tangled up in the world of human trafficking while trying to save his mother (Collette) from addiction. Barrett wrote the screenplay. Ed Guiney and Juliette Bonass are producing for Ireland’s Element Pictures in association with Nine Entertainment. Element’s Andrew Lowe is exec producer. Up-and-comer Reynor is returning to his roots with Glassland. The actor got a ringing endorsement from Michael Bay last January when he tapped the Irish thesp for the new Transformers. At the time, Bay wrote on his website, “I just hired a great new actor for Transformers 4 to star against Mark Wahlberg. Jack Reynor, he is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie What Richard Did. This kid is the real deal.”

Who Has ‘Divergent’ Chemistry With Shailene Woodley?

Mike Fleming

Summit Entertainment is bearing down on the male lead in Divergent, the adaptation of the Neil Burger-directed adaptation of the Veronica Roth novel that will star Shailene Woodley. She’s the next hot gal after a breakout performance in The Descendants, followed by scoring the Mary Jane role in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. I’m told that Summit held Divergent “chemistry” readings yesterday that paired Woodley with four young actors: Luke Bracey, Brenton Thwaites, Lucas Till and Jack Reynor.

Since I barely got my high school Regent’s diploma with a 65 in chemistry (at the time it was a jump shot at the buzzer following the 32 I scored in trigonometry), I am the wrong person to ask about who emerged with a leg up by acing this chemistry test. But I think it means we should have a winner shortly, and it likely will be one of these up and comers. Read More »
