EXCLUSIVE: Stars of two of ABC‘s most popular 1980s family comedies are teaming for the network’s multi-generational comedy pilot The Winklers. Judith Light of Who’s The Boss fame is set to co-star opposite Happy Days alum Henry Winkler in the pilot, from Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal; Winkler’s son, director Max Winkler; and son-in-law, actor Rob Reinis. Based on Henry Winkler’s relationship with his son-in-law, Reinis, Winklers centers on Jack (Domenick Lombardozzi), an emotionally reserved construction worker who learns about love, life and hugs while unexpectedly living with his in-laws — successful actor Henry (Winkler) and Tita Winkler (Light), the fabulous, fierce momma bear of the family. 20th TV is producing. Light, repped by Gersh, Tao Management and William Sobel, has been recurring on TNT’s Dallas.

The Tudors alumna Natalie Dormer is set as the female lead opposite Chris Egan in ABC’s drama pilot Poe. The project, from Warner Bros. TV and Lin Pictures, is a crime procedural following Edgar Allan Poe (Egan), the world’s very first detective, as he uses unconventional methods to investigate dark mysteries in 1840s Boston. Dormer, repped by ICM and U.K.’s United Agents, will play Celeste, a beautiful spitfire, with a firm moral center – the logical yin to Poe’s wildly theoretical yang. She owns the newspaper for which Poe writes, having inherited it from her fiancé who died in mysterious circumstances.
Judith Light has been tapped for a regular role in ABC’s half-hour pilot Other People’s Kids. The multicamera comedy, written by Hunter Covington and directed by Michael Fresco, centers on Adam (Jesse Bradford), a 32-year-old guy with no responsibilities who suddenly finds himself with an insta-family when he falls in love with an older woman, Michelle (Bonnie Sommerville) who has two kids, an ex-husband, and ex-in-laws. Light, repped by Gersh and TAO Management, will play Michelle’s ex-mother-in-law, an eccentric older woman living with her lover who likes to keep all 10 fingers deep in family matters.
After Blythe Danner and Swoosie Kurtz made a memorable turn as Peter Facinelli’s lesbian moms on the first season of Nurse Jackie, the show’s producers decided to bring the characters back for another guest stint in the upcoming third season. However, Danner was unavailable because she is shooting a movie, so Judith Light was tapped for the role… Robert Knepper is adding to the string of bad guys he’s played on TV, most notably on Prison Break and Heroes. In a 2-episode arc on Showtime’s upcoming drama Shameless, he will play a goon who is chasing William Macy’s alcoholic partiarch character because of a scam they had going together.
