Lionsgate Acquires U.S. And UK Distribution For ‘The Big Wedding’

Lionsgate has acquired U.S. and UK rights to the ensemble comedy The Big Wedding, and has set an Oct. 19, 2012 release for the Nu Image/Millennium Films pic that stars Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton as a long-divorced couple that fakes marriage when the family is reunited for a big wedding. Susan Sarandon, Katherine Heigl, Amanda Seyfried, Robin Williams, Ben Barnes and Topher Grace are in the film, which is shooting in Connecticut. The Bucket List scribe Justin Zackham is directing.

Topher Grace Heads ‘Gently Down The Stream’

EXCLUSIVE: Topher Grace will star in Gently Down The Stream, which Justin Zackham is directing from his script for Millennium Films/Nu Image. He joins Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried. Grace will play Jared, the son of the characters played by De Niro and Keaton. He’s a doctor who ends up falling in love with a young Latin woman, awkward since she’s his adopted brother’s sister. The pic begins shooting in July in Connecticut.

Grace will next be seen in HBO’s Too Big To Fail. He also stars in The Double with Richard Gere and The Giant Mechanical Man. WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners made his deal.

Tenor Tale Hits Right Notes For ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Helmer David Frankel

EXCLUSIVE: David Frankel, director of The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me, has just agreed to direct One Chance, a feature based on the unlikely overnight success story of Paul Potts, a schlubby British cell phone salesman who showed up onstage to sing opera on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent in 2007, and left a hosting panel that included Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan with their jaws on the floor.

Frankel, who just wrapped The Big Year with Jack Black, wants to make this his next film to start production in April. The project was originally set at Paramount, which let it go. With Frankel aboard to direct a script by The Bucket List writer Justin Zackham, producers Brad Weston and Mike Menchel today will go out to financiers looking to secure production financing to make that start date. Frankel’s repped by WME and Anonymous Content’s Rosalie Swedlin. The film is a comedy that follows Potts from his origins as a chubby child to awkward portly adult with a passion for opera, and the various mishaps along the way that kept his spectacular voice a secret until he unveiled it one night before most of the United Kingdom.
