EXCLUSIVE: The Mark Gordon Company has set up two more drama projects at ABC through the company’s overall deal at ABC Studios — a character-driven procedural written by Tom Donaghy, creator of the ABC drama The Whole Truth, and a project penned by feature scribe Dean Georgaris (Paycheck). Both are executive produced by Gordon and Nick Pepper.
The untitled Tom Donaghy drama, which the Mark Gordon Co is producing with ABC Studios-based Michael McDonald, centers on a big city criminologist who is brought in to help local police crack a case involving a shocking string of disappearances. But the chief detective she’s been hired to help is her father — and they haven’t talked in 10 years. The Georgaris-penned Clementine, produced by the Mark Gordon Co and Ilene Staple, centers on a profoundly troubled 28-year-old psychic who sees her life to begin to change in unexpected ways when she decides to stop running from her past. The two dramas join three other sales by the Mark Gordon Co: a drama at ABC with writers Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard, and comedies at ABC and Fox.
UPDATED: The Mark Gordon Co. has set up an untitled drama project at ABC with writers Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard (Fallen). While the project was originally announced as being half-hour — a throwback to the old days of half-hour drama series like Dragnet, The Rifleman and Have Gun, Will Travel — turns out it is a traditional hourlong drama after all. From ABC Studios where Mark Gordon is based, the project revolves around two female detectives in San Francisco who are being partnered up again after one took a break to start a family. They used to be closer than sisters, but a secret has come between them. Now that they’re thrown back together, they have as much work to do repairing their relationship as they do solving their cases. Price and Millard will executive produce with the Mark Gordon Co.’s Gordon and Nick Pepper. The Price/Millard project joins two other half-hour sales for the Mark Gordon Co., both of those being comedies.

Via its overall deal with Mark Gordon Company, ABC Studios has made a joint venture pact with Sonar Entertainment for Fix It Men. ABC Studios will work with Sonar to set up and produce the action-suspense series created by John Glenn (Hatfields & McCoys, Eagle Eye) about a scientist and a Special Forces soldier from the post-apocalyptic future who travel back in time to prevent Armageddon. Landing in present day, the pair morph into their younger selves as they set about altering a series of seemingly random events that form the chain leading to the catastrophe. ABC Studios will handle North American distribution and Sonar will take the rest of the world, just in time for the Mip-TV market in Cannes next month.
The Mark Gordon Co. and writers-producers Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts (ABC’s Revenge) have sold two hourlong projects, including one to ABC based on an original idea by actor Josh Duhamel. Both hail from ABC Studios, where the Mark Gordon Co. and Berg & Harberts have deals.
The untitled ABC project takes place behind the scenes of a daytime soap and explores the loves, lives, and lunacy at an on-the-bubble series, where the antics of the cast and crew are crazier than any of the plot lines they broadcast. Set during a time when the daytime drama genre is faltering, this larger-than-life “workplace family” fights a never-ending, desperate battle to keep their show on the air, their egos secure, and their relationships intact. Duhamel can certainly draw on personal experience, having started off on the ABC soap All My Children. He co-created the show with Berg and Harberts, who will write the script. Mark Gordon, Nicholas Pepper, Berg, Harberts, Duhamel and his friend, fellow actor Oliver Hudson will executive produce. Read More »

The CBS project, Darkness Falls, brings together the key auspices behind long-running procedural Criminal Minds — CBS, which airs it; the Mark Gordon Co., ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios, which produce it; and the series’ executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer. Messer will write and executive produce Darkness Falls with fellow Criminal Minds executive producer Janine Sherman Barrois. The project is described as a character procedural that will explore the complex dynamic of an FBI psychologist and a homicide specialist as they journey into small communities around the country to solve the darkest, most twisted single murders. WME-repped Barrois will serve as showrunner, with UTA-repped Messer continuing her duties as the sole showrunner on Criminal Minds. Gordon and Nicholas Pepper also executive produce. Read More »
