UPDATE: TV Land just officially announced the series pickups of Fran Drescher’s Happily Divorced; Mark Reisman’s project, now called The Exes; and the second-season renewal of Retired at 35. As expected, the orders for Happily Divorced and The Exes are for 10 episodes each. Happily Divorced will premiere June 15, paired with Hot In Cleveland, while The Exes will launch next winter alongside the second season of Retired at 35.

PREVIOUS EXCLUSIVE: It looks like that for a second consecutive time, TV Land will pick up two new comedy series. As the network is finalizing the series order to the Fran Drescher sitcom Happily Divorced, I hear the cable network is also closing in on a series pickup for the untitled Mark Reisman project (aka Ex Men). Both shows are expected to receive 10-episode orders. The Reisman comedy revolves around three divorced guys (David Alan Basche, Donald Faison, Wayne Knight) who live in an apartment building where their landlord is their sexy female divorce attorney (Kristen Johnston).

Fifteen months ago, TV Land ordered its first two scripted pilots, sitcoms Hot In Cleveland and Retired at 35, both of which went to series. Hot In Cleveland has already been renewed for a third season, with a second-season pickup for Retired at 35 also likely. Last fall, TV Land greenlighted three pilots, Happily Divorced, the Mark Reisman project as well a sitcom from comedy writer Terri Minsky. Word is the last one may not be going … Read More »

TV Land Greenlights Comedy Pilot

EXCLUSIVE: TV Land is opening its second pilot pickup season with a cast-contingent order to Ex Men, a multi-camera sitcom from former Frasier executive producer Mark Reisman. The project revolves around 3 divorced guys who live in an apartment building where their landlord is their young and sexy female divorce attorney. Reisman, who wrote Ex Men and will executive produce it, created and executive produced the series Quintuplets on Fox and In-Laws on NBC. Ex Men is expected to be the first of several pilots at TV Land, which entered the original scripted arena a year ago with its first two pilots ever, Hot in Cleveland and Retired at 35. Both were eventually picked up to series, and Cleveland launched in the summer as the highest-rated comedy series on cable. The sitcom starring Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White, returns with 20 new original episodes on Jan. 19. A premiere date for Retired at 35 is expected to be announced shortly.
