Miller wrote the script with Hamburg, who is set to direct. The two executive produce. This is the second pilot order for Miller this season, along with drama Forever at ABC. This is CBS’ fifth pilot for next season and the third single-camera comedy.
EXCLUSIVE: It has been a strong selling season for feature writer-director John Hamburg (Meet The Parents franchise, I Love You, Man) and former Chuck executive producer Matt Miller. Each already has sold a project with a put pilot commitment. Now the two have teamed for a comedy, which too has landed as a put pilot. CBS has bought the single-camera comedy, Good Session, which is produced by Warner Bros. TV where Miller is under a deal. Written/executive produced by Miller and Hamburg and to be directed by Hamburg if it goes to pilot, Good Session is exploring (via couples counseling sessions) the relationship of a thirtysomething couple from their first meeting (in flashback) through present day, as they decide whether it’s time to have a child. Hamburg, repped by WME and Sloss Eckhouse Law, is executive producing single-camera comedy The Henchman, which has a put pilot commitment at Fox. He has feature Brother From Another Mother set up at Fox. Miller, who served as showrunner on ABC’s 666 Park Ave, has drama Forever at ABC with a put pilot commitment. He also is executive producing/supervising drama Bad Guys at Fox. Repped by WME and McKuin, Frankel, Whitehead.
EXCLUSIVE: Former Chuck executive producer Matt Miller has teamed with Zev Borow, former writer on the NBC spy dramedy, for a cop/family drama that has sold to Fox. Written by Borow with Miller supervising, Bad Guys centers on Lea Morris, a NYPD detective and a single mom raising a teenage son, and her dad Nalin Morris, a recently paroled ex-con who wants a second chance with his daughter and a first with his grandson. Per the project’s logline, “Bad Guys affirms the ancient truth: You can’t pick your family, but with any luck you can arrest them.” Borrow and Miller will executive produce for Warner Bros TV where Miller is under a deal. The project reunites Miller and Borow with Fox — Miller served as showrunner on the network’s WBTV-produced drama Human Target, on which Borow was a writer. WME-repped Miller was executive producer/showrunner on the pilot for the upcoming CW/WBTV drama series The 100, on which he will be a consulting producer. He also recently sold a high-concept crime drama to ABC with a put pilot commitment. Borow, repped by UTA and Todd Rubenstein, is the writer/exec producer of USA’s comedy pilot Love Is Dead.
