
The Fast and the Furious franchise’s Sung Kang is reuniting with the franchise’s writer Chris Morgan, this time in TV. Kang has been cast in the Fox drama pilot Gang Related, from 20th TV and Imagine TV. Written by Morgan and directed by Allen Hughes, Gang Related centers on Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez), a gang member sent in to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department who rises through its ranks but must balance his obligations to his crime family with an increasing sense of loyalty to his new “family” — the SFPD’s Gang Task Force. Kang will play Tae Kim, an Asian gang specialist on loan from the FBI who refuses to celebrate Ryan’s achievements because he considers Ryan’s tactics dangerous and wasteful. Morgan and showrunner Scott Rosenbaum exec produce the pilot with Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. Kang, repped by WME and Management 360, has starred in Fast & The Furious movies since the 2006 Tokyo Drift and next reprises his role as Han in the upcoming sixth installment, also penned by Morgan.
