Motion Picture Sound Editors To Honor Ray Dolby At Golden Reel Awards

Golden Reel Awards 61stStudio City, California–February 4, 2014—The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) will include a special tribute to the late American inventor Ray Dolby, recognized around the world for developing groundbreaking audio technologies, during its 61st MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony, set for February 16th in Los Angeles. Dolby’s pioneering work in noise reduction and surround sound led to the development of many state-of-the-art technologies used in the film, television and recording industries.

Skywalker Sound’s Randy Thom To Receive MPSE Lifetime Award

Thom is a two-time Academy Award-winner (The Right Stuff, The Incredibles) and a 14-time Oscar nominee. He has contributed to more than 100 films as a sound designer and re-recording mixer. He will receive the award at the 61ST MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony held on February 16, 2014, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites, Los Angeles, CA.

James Cameron To Receive MPSE Award

MPSE Golden Reel Awards: ‘Life Of Pi’, ‘Les Misérables’, ‘Skyfall’, ‘Wreck-It Ralph’, ‘Game Of Thrones’, ‘Fringe’

Life Of Pi, Les Misérables, Skyfall and Wreck-It Ralph took home feature film prizes tonight at the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards. Life Of Pi, which won two awards, and Skyfall are also Oscar-nominated for sound editing. Game Of Thrones, Fringe and Smash were among the winners of Golden Reels in television. In the ceremony at at downtown LA’s Westin Bonaventure Hotel, the MPSE also presented Life Of Pi director Ang Lee the organization’s previously announced Filmmaker Award. Foley artist John Roesch received the MPSE’s 2013 Career Achievement Award. Roesch, whose list of credits is extensive, is the first Foley artist whose career the MPSE has recognized. The Golden Reels recognize sound editing in 22 categories encompassing feature films, television, animation, computer entertainment and student work. Sound Editors Announce Nominations For Golden Reel Awards

Four movies dominated nominations for the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards. Argo, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Life Of Pi and Skyfall were each nominated for four awards. The Dark Knight Rises, Django Unchained and Lincoln took 3 nominations apiece. The Golden Reels recognize sound editing in 22 categories encompassing feature films, television, animation, computer entertainment and student work. Also this year, the MPSE has chosen director Ang Lee to receive its Filmmaker Award and to honor Foley artist John Roesch for with a Career Achievement Award. The 60th MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony will take place February 17 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites in downtown Los Angeles. Sound Editors Honor ‘Hugo,’ ‘War Horse’ Among Others At Golden Reel Awards

DreamWorks’ War Horse, Paramount’s HugoThe Adventures Of Tintin and Super 8, and Disney’s The Muppets were among the winnners at the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards, which honor the year’s best work in the areas of sound editing for dialogue & ADR, effects & foley and music for film and TV. The group held its awards ceremony last night at the Westin Bonaventure, where producer Gale Anne Hurd was honored with the 2012 MPSE Filmmaker Award and sound editor George Watters II was tapped a MPSE Career Achievement Recipient. War Horse won Best Sound Effects and Foley In a Feature Film, while Hugo took best music; both are nominated for Sound Editing at the Oscars. Sound Editors Give ‘Super 8′, ‘War Horse’, ‘Rise Of Planet Of Apes’ Most Nominations

The Motion Picture Sound Editors today announced their 2012 MPSE Golden Reel Award nominations which acknowledge the year’s best work in sound and music editing in motion pictures and television in various categories: Dialogue & ADR, Effects & Foley, and Music. ”The significance of sound should not be underestimated,” said MPSE president Bobbi Banks. “The emotional intimacy of the sound experience is amplified by giving the audience the perception that they are encountering the same state of cognitive consciousness as the characters.” The MPSE is honoring producer Gale Anne Hurd for the 2012 MPSE Filmmaker Award and sound designer/editor George Watters II for the MPSE Career Achievement Award. The 59th Golden Reel Awards will be held February 19th at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown LA. Here are the 2012 nominations:
