Bella Thorne & Kyra Sedgwick Set For Thriller ‘Big Sky’

EXCLUSIVE: The star of Disney Channel’s about-to-end Shake It Up continues her march into more mature material. Having joined the indie Home Invasion earlier this year, Bella Thorne has now signed on along with Kyra Sedgwick as the leads in Manis Film’s thriller Big Sky. The English language debut by Jorge Michel Grau, who helmed the original Spanish language chiller We Are What We Are, features Thorne as Hazel and the former The Closer star as her protective mother Dee. On their way to a desert facility to help the teen deal with her paralysing agoraphobia, the two find themselves attacked by gunmen and Hazel has to fight her own demons for the duo to survive. Production on the pic, from an original screenplay by Evan M. Wiener, starts this week in Albuquerque. Frank Grillo, who starred in End of Watch, Zero Dark Thirty and will be in upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier plays the male lead in the film along with Les Miserables’ Aaron Tveit. Randy Manis, Matthew Salloway and Christina Papagjika are producing. Christine Vachon is executive producing for Killer Films with Jeffrey V. Mandel of TBD Syndicate and AKA pictures’ Clayton Young. Ricky Tollman is co-producing. AKA pictures, a subsidiary of Benaroya Pictures, is co-financing Big Sky.

Movie Castings: Chris Elliot & J.K. Simmons Join Hugh Grant RomCom; ‘Jupiter Ascending’ Adds David Ajala

Chris Elliot and J.K. Simmons have signed on to join Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei and Allison Janney in the still untitled romantic comedy from Marc Lawrence. Simmons will portray Dr. Lerner, Chair of the University’s English department where Grant’s Ray Michaels character teaches. Lerner takes former Oscar winning screenwriter Michaels under his wing. Simmons is represented by The Gersh Agency. Elliott will play Jim, a Shakespeare professor and neighbor to Michaels. Elliott is represented by UTA and Anonymous Content. Lawrence is writing and directing the film, which is scheduled to start filming in NYC next month.

David Ajala has joined the cast of Lana and Andy Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending.The British actor will play Ibis in the sci-fi action film. The character is the leader of the cyber hunters who are after Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis’ characters.  Besides Tatum and Kunis, the Warner Bros-Village Roadshow co-production also stars Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne. Jupiter Ascending is set to shoot in London and to be released on July 25, 2014. Ajala can next be seen by blockbuster audiences in Fast & Furious 6. He is repped by managers Jeff Golenberg and Matt Goldman and the UK’s Oliver Slinger from Independent Talent Group.

Movie Castings: Seth Rogen Scores ‘The Interview’, ‘Endless Love’ Remake Gets Leads & ‘Winter Soldier’ Sees Agent Return

Columbia Pictures has snagged Seth Rogen for The Interview. The actor will not only star in the comedy but he will direct and produce it as well from a story he and Evan Goldberg came up with. Dan Sterling wrote teh screenplay. The Interview follows a talk show producer (Rogen) and his host as they get drawn into geopolitical intrigue with an attempt on the life of one of the leaders of rogue state North Korea. Rogen is repped by UTA and Principal Entertainment LA.

Magic Mike’s Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde will play the leads in Universal’s remake of 1981’s Endless Love. Starring Brooke Shields, the original film was based on the 1979 book by Scott Spencer. The new version will be directed by Shana Feste. Scott Stuber and Pamela Abdy of Bluegrass Films and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage from Fake Empire are producing with Tracy Falco as executive produce. Soon to be seen in the White House saga The Butler, Pettyfer is repped by WME and attorney Steve Warren. Starring in the upcoming Carrie remake, Wilde is repped by ICM Partners and by Charles Collier in the U.K.

Casting Couch: Sebastian Roché Added To ‘A Walk Among The Tombstones’, Trio Of Actresses Join ‘Larry Gaye’

Sebastian Roché will be joining Liam Neeson in A Walk Among The Tombstones. In the film, the Vampire Diaries regular will play Yuri Landau, a middle class Russian drug dealer whose daughter is kidnapped. He asks hardboiled ex-NYPD cop and unlicensed private detective Matt Scudder, played by Neeson, to help get her back before it is too late. Scott Frank is both directing and adapting the Lawrence Block book. Double Feature Films partners Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher are producing with Danny DeVito and his Jersey Films. Sebastian Roché is repped by APA and Vanguard Management.

Rebecca Romijn, Jessica Lowndes and Jayma Mays have been added to Larry Gaye: Renegade Male Flight Attendant. The trio join Mark Feuerstein, Stanley Tucci, Marcia Gay Harden, Taye Diggs, Henry Winkler and Leslie Coutterand in the film about a womanizing flight attendant who both suddenly discovers he has a teenage son and that he could lose his job. Sam Frielander is directing the indie from a script by Mike Sikowitz. Michael Roiff and Ted Kroeber are producing. Lowndes, who was on the recently cancelled 90210 reboot is repped by CAA, Aperture Entertainment and law firm Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Casting Couch: Johnny Pacar Added To ‘The Remaining’, Kevin Zegers Joins ‘Curse of Downer’s Grove’

Johnny Pacar has joined The Remaining. The former Flight 29 Down actor will play lead Tommy in the movie. The character has a crush on his best friend’s fiancé in the feature. Donnie Darko producer Casey La Scala is directing and Brad Luff is producing the Sony horror film. The Remaining is shooting in North Carolina. Pacar also recently wrapped the MTV pilot Hot Mess, written and directed by Lauren Iungerich. Pacar is repped by Intellectual Artists Management and Innovative Artists.

Kevin Zegers has been added to the cast of the thriller The Curse of Downer’s Grove. The Titanic: Blood and Steel actor will star opposite Lucas Till and Bella Heathcote in the Derick Martini directed film. Downer’s Grove is based on the novel by Michael Hornburg about a paranoid high school senior obsessed with a supposed curse that claims one student’s life each year. Zegers will also be seen in the upcoming The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones as well as in the indie All The Wrong Reasons from writer/director Gia Malani. Zegers is repped by ICM Partners and managed by Brian Bunnin.

Woody Allen Fills Out Cast For ‘The Bop Decameron’

New York (June 20, 2011) – Woody Allen announced today the full cast for “The Bop Decameron,” his latest film in pre-production. Starring, in alphabetical order, are: Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. Co-stars include Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi.

“The Bop Decameron” is a Gravier Productions film produced by Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum. This is Allen’s first film to be financed by the Italian production and distribution company, Medusa Film. “The Bop Decameron” begins production on July 11 and marks Allen’s first time shooting in Rome. His latest film, “Midnight in Paris,” is currently playing in theaters.

Mare Winningham and Michael Lerner have landed key roles in Relativity’s Snow White movie, a reimagining of the fairy tale that will be released March 16, 2012. The studio also announced its Seven Dwarfs: Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants), Jordan Prentice (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen), Sebastian Saraceno (Bedtime Stories), Ronald Lee Clark (Epic Movie), Martin Klebba (Hancock) and Joey Gnoffo (Pirates of the Caribbean series). Beverly Hills, CA (May 25, 2011) –- Relativity Media has closed deals with Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants), Jordan Prentice (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen), Sebastian Saraceno (Bedtime Stories), Ronald Lee Clark (Epic Movie), Martin Klebba (Hancock) and Joey Gnoffo (Pirates of the Caribbean series) to play the Seven Dwarfs in its upcoming untitled Snow White feature, directed by Tarsem Singh (Immortals, The Cell). The studio has also cast Mare Winningham (Brothers) as Baker Margaret and Michael Lerner (Elf) as Baron.

The nine actors join the previously announced cast in which Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts plays the Queen, Lily Collins (The Blind Side) plays Snow White, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) plays Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Birdcage) plays the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton.
