Movie Castings: Chris Elliot & J.K. Simmons Join Hugh Grant RomCom; ‘Jupiter Ascending’ Adds David Ajala

Chris Elliot and J.K. Simmons have signed on to join Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei and Allison Janney in the still untitled romantic comedy from Marc Lawrence. Simmons will portray Dr. Lerner, Chair of the University’s English department where Grant’s Ray Michaels character teaches. Lerner takes former Oscar winning screenwriter Michaels under his wing. Simmons is represented by The Gersh Agency. Elliott will play Jim, a Shakespeare professor and neighbor to Michaels. Elliott is represented by UTA and Anonymous Content. Lawrence is writing and directing the film, which is scheduled to start filming in NYC next month.

David Ajala has joined the cast of Lana and Andy Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending.The British actor will play Ibis in the sci-fi action film. The character is the leader of the cyber hunters who are after Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis’ characters.  Besides Tatum and Kunis, the Warner Bros-Village Roadshow co-production also stars Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne. Jupiter Ascending is set to shoot in London and to be released on July 25, 2014. Ajala can next be seen by blockbuster audiences in Fast & Furious 6. He is repped by managers Jeff Golenberg and Matt Goldman and the UK’s Oliver Slinger from Independent Talent Group.

Movie Castings: Seth Rogen Scores ‘The Interview’, ‘Endless Love’ Remake Gets Leads & ‘Winter Soldier’ Sees Agent Return

Columbia Pictures has snagged Seth Rogen for The Interview. The actor will not only star in the comedy but he will direct and produce it as well from a story he and Evan Goldberg came up with. Dan Sterling wrote teh screenplay. The Interview follows a talk show producer (Rogen) and his host as they get drawn into geopolitical intrigue with an attempt on the life of one of the leaders of rogue state North Korea. Rogen is repped by UTA and Principal Entertainment LA.

Magic Mike’s Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde will play the leads in Universal’s remake of 1981’s Endless Love. Starring Brooke Shields, the original film was based on the 1979 book by Scott Spencer. The new version will be directed by Shana Feste. Scott Stuber and Pamela Abdy of Bluegrass Films and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage from Fake Empire are producing with Tracy Falco as executive produce. Soon to be seen in the White House saga The Butler, Pettyfer is repped by WME and attorney Steve Warren. Starring in the upcoming Carrie remake, Wilde is repped by ICM Partners and by Charles Collier in the U.K.

Relativity’s Snow White Gets Her Seven Dwarfs; Mare Winningham, Michael Lerner Also Cast

Mare Winningham and Michael Lerner have landed key roles in Relativity’s Snow White movie, a reimagining of the fairy tale that will be released March 16, 2012. Beverly Hills, CA (May 25, 2011) –- Relativity Media has closed deals with Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants), Jordan Prentice (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen), Sebastian Saraceno (Bedtime Stories), Ronald Lee Clark (Epic Movie), Martin Klebba (Hancock) and Joey Gnoffo (Pirates of the Caribbean series) to play the Seven Dwarfs in its upcoming untitled Snow White feature, directed by Tarsem Singh (Immortals, The Cell). The studio has also cast Mare Winningham (Brothers) as Baker Margaret and Michael Lerner (Elf) as Baron.

The nine actors join the previously announced cast in which Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts plays the Queen, Lily Collins (The Blind Side) plays Snow White, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) plays Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Birdcage) plays the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton.
