NBCUniversal’s Hispanic cable network mun2 unveiled its programming lineup for 2014-2015 at its upfront presentation tonight in New York. It features new Hispanic celebrity reality series starring international Latin music icon Gloria Trevi, as well as sports programming including the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series, FIFA World Cup and the 2016 games of the Summer XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro. Mun2 also announced it is developing an action/drama scripted series set in a contemporary Mexican town. Here are programming details:
Ruben Mendiola has been named President of NBCUniversal’s cable channel mun2. He will report to Joe Uva, Chairman, Hispanic Enterprises and Content, NBCUniversal. Mun2 had been without a top executive since EVP and general manager Diana Mogollon departed at the end of February. Mendiola comes from Comcast Cable where he was SVP and General Manager of Multicultural Services. Before that ,he was General Manager of Latino Programming and Spanish Business Development at Dish Network, VP of Programming and Operations at Fox Sports Latin America and Programming Director for Pay TV at Grupo Televisa.
The Spanish-language competition series will bow early next year. Mun2 ordered 10 hourlong episodes of Combate Americas, which follows 10 Hispanic pro Mixed Martial Arts fighters as they compete for a spot in the titular MMA franchise. The show is created by UFC co-founder and Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren and BMP Latin, the Hispanic division of Bunim/Murray Productions. The series is hosted by Andrea Calle, with radio personality Piolin as color commentator.

NBCUniversal’s Latino-focused mun2 announced that the third season of Jenni Rivera‘s reality series I Love Jenni will premiere April 14 at 9 PM ET. It comes four months after the pop icon died in a plane crash in Northern Mexico that killed seven. The episodes will include footage shot in the month before her death as well as footage shot afterward as her family deals with her loss. Rivera’s children Chiquis, Jacqui, Michael, Jenicka and Johnny and Rivera’s sister Rosie will also appear in new episodes. Already a superstar in Mexico, the 43-year-old mother of five was just beginning to make inroads in the U.S. entertainment industry. The fatal crash occurred in the middle of filming the docu reality series and days after Rivera closed a deal to topline her own sitcom for ABC. On April 7, the network will air a one-hour tribute special We Love Jenni featuring Thalia, Snoop Lion, Diana Reyes, Regional Mexican stars Tucanes de Tijuana, Horoscopos de Durango and Larry Hernandez, The Voice host Carson Daly, and Extra’s Mario Lopez.
