Ellen Burstyn To Star In Amy Poehler’s NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Old Soul’

burstynAmy Poehler’s NBC comedy pilot Old Soul already boasts two Oscar winners, and casting is barely half-way done. Ellen Burstyn is set for a plum lead role opposite Natasha Lyonne in the single-camera pilot written/exec produced by Poehler, Josh Bycel and Jonathan Fener and directed by David Wain. Old Soul centers on a reformed wild child Nadia (Lyonne) who has a business caring for the elderly and feels she has more in common with her colorful old clients than she does with people her age. Burstyn will play aunt Nadia’s aunt Eileen, an earthy lesbian with a New Age bent who has recently survived cancer. Nadia may take care of her elderly clients, which are Eileen’s friends, but Eileen takes care of Nadia. Burstyn, repped by Innovative and the Schiff Co., joins recently cast Fred Willard and Oscar winner Rita Moreno and two of Eileen’s friends. She stars in Lifetime’s Flowers In the Attic movie franchise.

Michael Rosenbaum Joins NBC Pilot ‘Mission Control’; Fred Willard In ‘Old Soul’

UPDATED: Michael Rosenbaum rosenbaum3is set to co-star opposite Krysten Ritter in NBC pilot Mission Control, a Universal TV-produced comedy from studio-based Gary Sanchez Productions and executive producers Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. A workplace ensemble set in 1962, Mission Control examines what happens when a strong woman (Ritter) butts heads with a macho astronaut in the race to land on the moon. Rosenbaum will play Bus, a handsome, jockish, stubborn and loudly likeable NASA astronaut. Rosenbaum, repped by APA, Untitled and attorney Todd Rubenstein, was most recently seen in feature Back In The Day, which he wrote, produced, starred in and directed.

Greta Lee (Girls) is set to co-star opposite Natasha Lyonne  gretalee3 in NBC‘s single-camera comedy pilot Old Soul. Co-created by Amy Poehler, Josh Bycel and Jonathan Fener and directed by David Wain, Old Soul centers on a reformed wild child Nadia (Lyonne) who has a business caring for the elderly and feels she has more in common with her colorful old clients than she does with people her age. Lee, repped by CAA, Regarding Entertainment and Kimberly Jaime, plays Alix, Nadia’s loyal friend with a type A personality and “will not fail” attitude. She will be seen in Fox’s M. Night Shyamalan’s event series Wayward Pines and features  St. Vincent de Van Nuys and While We’re Young.

Derek Webster (Revolution) has booked aderek2 role on ABC alien drama pilot The Visitors from Amblin TV. It chronicles the race against the clock to defeat an unseen alien enemy out to destroy the world. Webster, repped by Main Title and AKA, plays Jessup Rollins, an FBI agent with two disciplinary reprimands on his record and a past of difficult behavior. He recurs on NBC’s midseason The Night Shift.

Co-created/exec produced by Amy Poehler, Josh Bycel and Jonathan Fener and directed by David Wain, Old Soul centers on a reformed wild child Nadia (Lyonne) who has a business caring for the elderly and feels she has more in common with her colorful old clients than she does with people her age. Moreno will play one of the clients, a character that appears tailored for her down to the name, Rita. A sexy old gal and a ball of joy, Old Soul‘s Rita (Moreno) is a flamboyant, larger-than-life Broadway vet who has been happily married to her writing partner/husband for over 50 years. Moreno, repped by Innovative Artists, was the first and one of the very few performers to win an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony, and a Grammy. She has earned two Emmys for her guest appearances on The Rockford Files and the Muppet Show and most recently co-starred on the TV Land comedy series Happily Divorced.

wainRole Models helmer David Wain has signed on to direct NBC‘s single-camera comedy pilot Old Soul, co-created by Amy Poehler and starring Natasha Lyonne. The Uni TV-produced project, which Poehler co-created with Josh Bycel and Jonathan Fener, centers on a reformed wild child Nadia (Lyonne) who has a business caring for the elderly and feels she has more in common with her colorful old clients than she does with people her age. Old Soul reunites Wain with Poehler — his Lionsgate feature They Came Together starring Poehler and Paul Rudd just premiered at Sundance. Wain, repped by WME, Principato-Young and attorney Rick Genow, executive produces Adult Swim’s Newsreaders as well as Childrens Hospital, which he also directs.
