While the exit of James Schamus from Focus Features was abrupt and unceremonious, his taste for tolerance hasn’t been forgotten. Outfest, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization promoting equality by creating, sharing, and protecting LGBT stories on the screen, will present Schamus with the 18th annual Outfest Achievement Award for a body of films including Brokeback Mountain, Milk and others. It’s the group’s highest honor and will be presented prior to the Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival’s Opening Night Gala screening of Life Partners on July 10 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
EXCLUSIVE: Nia Vardalos and Disney Channel alum Jason Dolley star in Helicopter Mom, the indie comedy that just completed this trailer before the pic world premieres tonight at the Seattle International Film Festival. It also just finalized a spot in the 2014 Outfest lineup unveiled today in the U.S. Dramatic Features category; that fest runs July 10-20 in LA. Helicopter Mom, directed by Salome Breziner from Duke Tran’s script, centers on a way overzealous mom who thinks her high school son might be gay and supports him by setting up dates with boys, and submitting an application for a gay student college scholarship. The only thing he’s sure about though is his mom is going way overboard. Sons Of Anarchy‘s Mark Boone Junior and Skyler Samuels co-star. Check it out:
