After setting Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone to star in his next untitled film, Woody Allen has just added Parker Posey and If I Stay‘s Jamie Blackley to the cast of the film currently shooting in Rhode Island. Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum are producing. Allen’s Magic In The Moonlight will be released this week by Sony Pictures Classics.

Chinese Couples Turn Out In Droves For Valentine’s Day
Chinese Valentine’s Day was a big box office draw for couples, FilmBiz Asia reports. The Tuesday holiday set a record with $22.9M in takings. That was largely down to three films: Pacific Rim, which added $5.74M; sequel Tiny Times 2 with an extra $5.6M: and Fan Bing ringing up a further $4.7M in One Night Surprise. The films were up 81%, 105% and 156%, respectively, compared with Monday, FBA said.
Zhang Yimou Eyeing Screen Reunion With Gong Li?
Also in China, veteran director Zhang Yimou is tipped to be prepping a reteam with actress Gong Li. During a financial conference this week, Le Vision Pictures CEO Zhang Zhao reportedly said the director will shoot Return, “a Cultural Revolution story,” in the fourth quarter of the year. “He has made commercial films for 10 years, and has got fed up. Now he wants to come back to make art house film and collaborate with Gong Li,” the executive reportedly said. According to local media, Return is an adaption of Yan Geling’s novel, The Criminal Lu Yanshi. Geling wrote the source material for Zhang’s Flowers Of War and also collaborated on the script. The director and actress worked together on numerous films including Curse of the Golden Flower, Raise the Red Lantern, The Story of Qiu Ju, and Red Sorghum.
ICM, IFT Repping Jerry Lewis’ ‘Max Rose’; Actor Headed To Cannes
ICM Partners is repping domestic and International Film Partners has foreign on Max Rose, the official selection title that is part of an homage to its star Jerry Lewis. Claire Bloom, Kevin Pollak, Kerry Bishé and Mort Sahl also star in the Lightstream Pictures production directed by Daniel Noah. Lewis plays an aging jazz musician who goes on a journey through his past after the death of his wife. A restored version of Lewis’ The Ladies Man is also running in Cannes Classics. The legendary actor who, has a long relationship with the festival, will be present in Cannes for the tribute.
There will be a recasting on NBC‘s newly picked up comedy series The Family Guide, from DJ Nash. Parker Posey, who played the female lead in the pilot, won’t continue on the series. The project, written/exec produced by Nash, is about a son who idolizes his blind father (J.K. Simmons) and is bemused by his mother’s newfound adolescence who watches his family come closer together post-divorce. Posey played the mother. Technically, The Family Guide also doesn’t have a male lead at the moment as Simmons co-stars on the ABC series Family Tools. He is expected to be released soon as Family Tools will be cancelled.
NBC has tapped Christina Ricci and Parker Posey for starring roles in two of its comedy pilots as the network is looking to shake off the recent rough patch with a string of disappointing launches and focus on landing top talent for its next batch of potential series.
Ricci is finalizing a deal to play the lead in Girlfriend In A Coma, which centers on Karen (Ricci), a woman who was in a coma for many years and unexpectedly comes out of the coma to find she has a 17-year-old daughter. Posey is set as the female lead in the untitled DJ Nash comedy, about a son who idolizes his blind father and is bemused by his mother’s (Posey) newfound adolescence who watches his family come closer together post-divorce.
Girlfriend In A Coma is from Universal TV, Nurse Jackie co-creator Liz Brixius Dick Wolf; the DJ Nash project from Nash and exec producer Jason Bateman. Both are single-camera.
