Here’s a new trailer for Relativity’s April actioner Brick Mansions, the parkour-centric remake of French pic District B13 which stars the late Paul Walker alongside freerunning expert David Belle and RZA. In this version the setting’s been updated to dystopian Detroit, where undercover cop Brian O’Conner – er, Damien Collier – joins forces with an ex-con to save the city and get justice for the ones they love. Hellboy 2‘s Luke Goss has been cast as Marine Conrad Miller, an AWOL soldier in possession of secret government information, in Triumphant Pictures’ AWOL 72 which Christian Sesma is directing from a script by Triumphant Entertainment founder Cecil Chambers. Also boarding the pic are Bokeem Woodbine, who is attached to play a highly-paid assassin also on Miller’s trail, and rapper-filmmaker RZA (Fox’s Gang Related), who has been cast as an LAPD detective. Triumphant will produce and finance the action-thriller which films in L.A. early next year. AWOL 72 is already set for release by XLrator Media while Premiere Entertainment handles international sales. RZA is repped by CAA. Goss is repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and DW Management. Woodbine is repped by The Gersh Agency.
Hip hop producer/actor Rza has been cast in Fox’s drama pilot Gang Related, from 20th TV and Imagine TV. Written by Chris Morgan and directed by Allen Hughes, Gang Related centers on Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez), a gang member sent in to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department. EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell Deadline that the Django Unchainedproducer and The Man With The Iron Fists director/star last night finalized an arrangement to work together on a series of projects. While the projects are unnamed as of yet, the plan is for the duo to direct and produce a series of comic-related projects and possibly create their own company. At least one of those projects could be in the superhero genre, Deadline is told, based on Hudlin’s comic book past. The former BET President and House Party director wrote The Black Panther series for Marvel from 2005 to 2008. The Black Panther, a modern day African chief and past Avengers member in the Marvel universe, has been rumored repeatedly as a possible upcoming feature as Marvel expands its successful onscreen properties. Hip hop star RZA’s feature directorial debut The Man With The Iron Fists was given a November 2 release date by Universal Pictures today. The martial arts film, shot in China, was produced by Quentin Tarantino from a script by Eli Roth and RZA. Universal Pictures said today it will release The Man With The Iron Fistson Friday, November 2nd of this year. Produced by Quentin Tarantino and others, the stylized action-adventure inspired by kung-fu classics is directed by RZA from a script by Eli Roth who’s also producing. RZA, leader of the Wu-Tang Clan and as one of hip-hop’s most dominant figures, is making his debut as a big-screen helmer, co-writer and leading man with cast including Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu as well as Rick Yune, Jamie Chung, Cung Le, Dave Bautista, Byron Mann, Daniel Wu and Pam Grier.
Universal Pictures just sent Deadline this trailer with the description “Quentin Tarantino presents an action-adventure inspired by kung-fu classics as interpreted by his longtime collaborators RZA and Eli Roth.” RZA makes his debut as feature director and leading man. Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu also star in “the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero in nineteenth-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy them all.” Release date has not been scheduled.
