EXCLUSIVE: Scott Speedman is set to star opposite Patricia Clarkson in October Gale, the drama written and directed by Ruba Nadda. She also wrote and directed Cairo Time, which starred Clarkson. Speedman plays a mysterious man who, during a violent October storm, washes up on the shore of Helen Matthews’ remote island cottage, unconscious and bleeding from a gunshot wound. Clarkson plays the recently widowed doctor who takes him in, only to find that the shooter is coming back to finish the job and that the storm has cut them off from the mainland. Daniel Iron will produce through Foundry Films, and Christine Vachon will be exec producer through Killer Films. The film shoots in Canada in five weeks.
EXCLUSIVE: Scott Speedman is set as one of the leads in Open, HBO’s drama pilot from Ryan Murphy. The project, which Murphy co-wrote with Lauren Gussis, is described as a modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships. Speedman will play Jonathan, a handsome sports marketing executive. On Open, from Fox 21, he joins Wes Bentley, who was recently cast as the other male lead. Felicity alum Speedman, repped by WME and Circle of Confusion, toplined ABC’s drama series Last Resort last season. He recently wrapped Atom Egoyan’s psychological thriller Queen Of the Night opposite Ryan Reynolds.

Participant Media is backing with Image Nation and Colombia’s Dynamo and Spain’s Apaches Entertainment. Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King and Nick Spicer of XYZ Films serve as executive producers. Alex & David Pastor and Javier Gullón wrote the script, about an American couple, Sarah and Paul Harriman, who move to Colombia with their young daughter, Hannah, to take over the manufacturing business owned by Sarah’s father, and soon realize that the house they’ve moved into is haunted.
