Keri Russell Signs To Star In Scott Stewart-Directed Thriller ‘Dark Skies’

Keri Russell Dark SkiesFormer Felicity star Keri Russell has signed on to play the lead in Dark Skies, the supernatural thriller written and to be directed by Scott Stewart for Dimension Films. The film is more modest-budget scare fare from Insidious and Paranormal Activity producers Blumhouse, with production to begin this summer.

Stewart wrote-directed Priest and Legion, and the film’s being produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Alliance Films, the latter of which is financing. Russell, whose film work includes Waitress and Mission: Impossible 3, is repped by WME and managed by The Burstein Company. Read More »

Dimension Acquires Scott Stewart-Directed ‘Dark Skies’

New York, NY, April 26, 2012 – Dimension Films announced today that they have acquired U.S. distribution rights to the supernatural thriller DARK SKIES, written and directed by Scott Stewart (PRIEST, LEGION). Jason Blum will produce through his Blumhouse Productions (INSIDIOUS, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY) alongside Alliance Films who will fully finance the picture. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Alliance Films’ Charles Layton will executive produce. Alliance Films will distribute in Canada, in the UK (via its Momentum Pictures subsidiary) and in Spain (via Aurum). Octane, IM Global’s genre label, will launch international sales in Cannes.

PRIEST, based on the Tokyopop-published graphic novel, is brought to you by the folks behind the agreeable B-movie LEGION. While many of the original Manga take place in the past, the movie serves as a sequel, set in a post-apocalyptic world. We’re shown a clip that is “not MPAA approved.” It begins with a dark, BLADE RUNNER-style cityscape. A hooded figure carrying a rosary walks through. It’s Paul Bettany, and he has a red cross tattooed on his face.
