Laura Benanti Joins ABC’s ‘Nashville’; Benjamin Ciaramello In ‘Secrets & Lies’Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (Gypsy, Into The Woods, Swing) has booked a multi-episode arc on the upcoming third season of ABC‘s country music drama Nashville. Benanti will play Sadie Stone, an up-and-coming country star who befriends Rayna (Connie Britton). Benanti, repped by CAA and Emily Gerson Saines at Brookside Artist Management, most recently appeared in NBC’s The Sound Of Music Live! She has starred in the NBC series Go On and The Playboy Club, as well as FX comedy series Starved. She also has recurred on Nurse Jackie, Royal Pains, The Big C, and Law & Order: SVU.

Benjamin Ciaramello is setBen Ciaramello 2 as a recurring on ABC mystery Secrets & Lies from producer Aaron Kaplan and director Charles McDougall. Based on an Australian series, Secrets & Lies stars Ryan Phillippe as a family man who finds the body of a young boy and quickly becomes the prime murder suspect. Ciaramello, repped by House of Representatives and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein, will play Paul Murphy, Jess’ husband and Tom’s father who’s currently in the military and about to be deployed for the fifth time. He’s constantly battling inner demons resulting from extended periods in warring countries.

David Andrews Joins ABC’s  ‘The Whispers’, Meaghan Rath In ‘Secrets & Lies’David Andrews (Fight Club, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines) has been booked as recurring on ABC thriller The Whispers, from ABC Studios and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV. It focuses on an an unseen force that is manipulating society’s most innocent – our children – to act in favor of its cause. As the kids unwittingly help this unknown enemy, the clock counts down in a suspenseful race to save humanity. Andrews, repped by Mavrick Artists and Untitled, will play U.S. Secretary of Defense Frommer in a minimum 6-episode arc. Frommer is always in control, calmly authoritative, steely and uncompromising. He meets with Wes regarding Captain Bennigan’s possible survival after the plane crash, surprising Wes by letting him know that Bennigan was working secret ops. He is, however, very concerned about how much Bennigan’s wife may know.

Steven Brand Joins AMC Drama Pilot ‘Galyntine’, Dan Fogler Added To ABC’s ‘Secrets & Lies’Steven Brand has been tapped for a new series regular role on AMC’s pilot Galyntine, the drama created by Halt & Catch Fire‘s Jason Cahill and executive produced by Scott Free and The Walking Dead‘s Greg Nicotero. Nicotero also is directing the pilot, a fantasy-action adventure with hints of sci-fi set in a postapocalyptic future without technology where a band of survivors is forced to adapt to isolation and the challenges of their new world. Alex Russell was just cast in the lead role, and Catherine Dent and Charlotte D’Ambroise also are aboard. Brand, repped by Global Artists Agency, will play Britt, Haven’s (Dent) husband. He is Essyn and Aethys’ father, a once formidable hunter who’s now a political figure in the colony. Brand, who recurred on Starz’s Magic City, is next up in a recurring role on ABC’s drama Secrets & Lies.

ABC Picks Up ‘Secrets & Lies’ Starring Ryan Phillippe To Series

The network has picked up the last drama pilot that had remained in contention after the mass pickups last night — mystery Secrets & Lies, from producer Aaron Kaplan and director Charles McDougall. Based on an Australian series, Secrets & Lies stars Ryan Phillippe as a family man who finds the body of a young boy and quickly becomes the prime murder suspect. Juliette Lewis and KaDee Strickland co-star in the 10-episode project, which had a seven-figure episodic penalty attached. Secrets & Lies joins fellow newly picked up ABC drama series How To Get Away With Murder, American Crime, Forever, Whispers and Agent Carter. Talks for comedy pilots Fresh Off The Boat and Cristela are still underway.

Evans will play Natalie, Ben and Christy’s (KaDee Strickland) teenage daughter. She’ll join Ryan Phillipe who just closed a deal to topline the project. He has no choice but to try to find the real killer as his marriage, his kids, his reputation, and his sanity are all at stake. Martinez will play Jess, the child’s devastated mother. She will be seen in FilmDistrict and Endgame Entertainment’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Selfless. Martinez is repped by WME and Mosaic.

Brian Wiles has joined the cast of Ed Burns’ TNT pilotBrianWiles Public Morals, executive produced by Steven Spielberg. Set in 1967 in New York City’s Public Morals Division, it centers on cop Terry Muldoon (Burns), who is determined to raise his sons to be honest and hardworking as he deals with the dark underbelly of the vice world. Wiles is coming off a recurring role on CBS’ Person Of Interest. He is repped by Bret Adams Agency and Shelter Entertainment.

EXCLUSIVE: Former Private Practice executive producer Barbie Kligman has joined ABC‘s adaptation of upcoming Australian crime mystery drama Secrets & Lies, from ABC Studios, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Australian-based Hoodlum. Kligman will serve as writer/executive producer/showrunner on the project, which has a 10-episode commitment and already is exploring casting choices. The original six-episode series stars Martin Henderson as a family man who finds the body of a young boy and quickly becomes the prime murder suspect. He has no choice but to try to find the real killer as his marriage, his kids, his reputation, and his sanity are all at stake. Kligman, repped by WME and Bruce Gellman, will exec produce alongside Kaplan and Hoodlum’s Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield. Kligman comes from the Shonda Rhimes school of showrunning. She spent three years on Rhimes’ Private Practice, rising to executive producer/co-head writer in the final season. Before that she was a co-executive producer on The Vampire Diaries.

EXCLUSIVE: Upcoming Australian crime mystery drama Secrets & Lies is getting an American remake. ABC has given a 10-episode commitment to the project, from ABC Studios, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Australian-based Hoodlum, which produces the original series. Search is underway for an American showrunner. The original six-episode series, which will air on Ten network, stars Martin Henderson as a family man who finds the body of a young boy and quickly becomes the prime murder suspect. He has no choice but to try to find the real killer as his marriage, his kids, his reputation and his sanity are all at stake. Kaplan and Hoodlum’s Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield are executive producing the U.S. adaptation, which already is exploring casting choices for the leads. Secrets & Lies reunites ABC, Kaplan and Hoodlum. The network recently gave a cast-contingent pilot order to comedy Strange Calls, also from Kapital Entertainment and based on a Hoodlum format. Hoodlum is with ICM Partners and Bob Myman; Kaplan is with Jamie Mandelbaum.
