BREAKING: Filmmaking team Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini have made deals to rewrite and direct My Beautiful Coma, the Chris Downey-scripted drama for Mandalay and Brett Ratner’s Rat Entertainment. Mandalay’s Matthew Rhodes and Cathy Schulman will produce, along with Ratner. Rat Entertainment’s John Cheng will executive produce, as will Bobby Sabelhaus. Mandalay Vision senior veep Jennifer Berman will oversee it and have a producing credit as well. The comedy is about an estranged couple who, after a car accident, find themselves side by side in comatose states. While sleeping, they each escape into their own alternate-reality where they are able to live out their every whim and fantasy, free of the banal details of real life. But when they mysteriously cross over into each other’s coma-worlds, all bets are off.

Mandalay Vision president Rhodes said “Shari and Bob’s talents are a perfect fit for this film’s broad appeal and innovative storytelling. My Beautiful Coma is a commercial comedy with an utterly unique visual style, and I can’t imagine anyone who would bring it to life with more fun and finesse than Shari and Bob.” Springer Berman & Pulcini, who last helmed the Kristen Wiig-starrer Girl Most Likely, are repped by Anonymous Content’s Adam Shulman and CAA. They were Oscar-nominated for scripting American Splendor.

Matt Dillon Set For Indie Comedy ‘Imogene’

Mike Fleming

EXCLUSIVE: Matt Dillon has been set to co-star in Imogene, joining Kristen Wiig and Annette Bening in the indie comedy that started shooting this week in New York. Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini are directing, and Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray’s Maven Pictures is producing with Anonymous Cntent’s Alix Madigan and Steve Golin. Dillon plays the eccentric love interest of Bening’s character. He claims to be in the CIA, but his behavior suggests he just might be crazy. In the Michelle Morgan-scripted comedy, Wiig plays a playwright who stages a fake suicide attempt in reaction to the triple-whammy of losing her job, getting evicted and getting dumped by her boyfriend. She hopes to gain sympathy from her ex, but instead is consigned to return to the home of her gambling addict mother (Bening). Dillon last starred in Takers and guested on Modern Family. He’d been expected to star with Brendan Fraser and William H. Macy in the Charlie Matthau-directed Elmore Leonard novel adaptation Freaky Deaky, but when Fraser dropped out of that due to personal reasons, the other actors followed, and that film will now star Christian Slater, Billy Burke, and Crispin Glover. Dillon is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

Anonymous Content Lands Management Trio To Bolster Talent Roster

Mike Fleming

EXCLUSIVE: Management/production company Anonymous Content is about to make a major play in the talent game. I’m hearing that Doug Wald is leaving his partnership at Raw Talent, Sandra Chang is leaving as partner at Industry Entertainment, and Tony Lipp is leaving CAA. The trio will lead Anonymous Content’s talent division and create a major infusion of acting clients. It is all taking shape today.

Lipp announced internally on Tuesday that he would leave CAA to be a manager. Wald and Chang dropped the bombshells this morning at their respective management companies. Anonymous has a modest talent business that included four managers and clients like Samuel L. Jackson, Robin Wright, Katie Cassidy, Omar Epps and Adrianne Palicki (just cast as Wonder Woman). The newcomers will greatly expand that list, and a lot of it is emerging talent. Among the actors already set to join: Sam Worthington, Paul Dano, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Anna Faris, Max Minghella, Jack Quaid, Patrick Wilson, Justin Chambers, Jessica Walter, Jaime King, Matt Bomer, John Cleese, Blythe Danner, Jonathan Groff, Mamie Gummer, Nathan Lane, Simon Russell Beale and Stanley Tucci.
