Dimension has unveiled a new trailer for Robert Rodriguez‘s and Frank Miller‘s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, adapted from Miller’s neo-noir graphic novels. The ultra-violent action crime thriller weaves two Sin City stories together into one hard-boiled narrative pitting the city’s thugs, lowlifes, and femme fatales against each other, with a cast that includes Jessica Alba, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Eva Green, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Juno Temple, Jaime King, Jamie Chung, Dennis Haysbert, and more. Sin City 2 hits theaters August 22 opposite WB’s If I Stay and sports drama When The Game Stands Tall:
Apparently it’s a little too risqué for the MPAA. The Hollywood studios’ trade group has voiced its disapproval of the poster for the upcoming sequel Sin City: A Dame To Kill For that features Eva Green draped in a strategically placed sheer white gown. We’re told it was nixed “for nudity — curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown.” It’s not unusual for the MPAA to weigh in this way, and we hear the association is working on a compromise with the filmmakers. Dimension Films had no comment but confirmed that the poster was being reworked. Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For opens August 22.
It’s been nine years since Frank Miller’s neo-noir graphic novels came to big-screen life. Now Dimension Films is releasing the follow-up. Eva Green stars in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For as Ava, a character Miller described as “every man’s most glorious dreams come true [and] every man’s darkest nightmares.” She is joined by an ensemble that features series newcomer Joseph Gordon-Levitt and such returnees as Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Powers Boothe and Jaime King. Also new to the stylish proceedings are Juno Temple, Josh Brolin, Chris Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Dennis Haysbert, Ray Liotta, Julia Garner and Stacy Keach, among others. Again directed by Miller and Robert Rodriguez, the pic opens August 22. Here’s the first trailer:
Dark Shadows’ star Eva Green has joined the burgeoning cast of Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Green will play Ava Lord, the deadly muse from Frank Miller’s graphic novel of the same name in the Dimension Film’s movie. Ava is “every man’s most glorious dreams come true, she’s also every man’s darkest nightmares,” said Miller in a statement today. Miller and Robert Rodriguez are co-directing the sequel to 2005’s Sin City together. The film is being shot now in Austin at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios. Rodriguez’s Quick Draw Productions, Aldamisa, AR Films, Miramax and Solipsist are producing. The new Sin City is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2013 with Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Rosario Dawson, Jamie King, and Clive Owen returning. Josh Brolin, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, Dennis Haysbert, and Juno Temple are making their Sin City debut in A Dame To Kill For.
EXCLUSIVE: Julia Garner has joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, which is now filming in Austin at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios. Garner, an up-and-comer whose credits include Martha Marcy May Marlene and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, will play a young stripper opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Johnny in the follow-up to 2005′s Sin City, adapted from Miller’s own graphic novel series.

Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven and Juno Temple have been cast in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, the Weinstein Company confirmed today. No information was available about their roles, but they join returning stars Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Rosario Dawson, Jamie King, Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen, as well as recently announced new cast Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung. The sequel to 2005′s Sin City is directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller and will feature three stories from the graphic novel series, plus a new story written for the film by Rodriguez, Miller and William Monahan. Dimension Films releases the pic October 4, 2013.
New York, NY January 8, 2013 – Today Dimension Films announced another big name that has been added to the SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR cast roster, further ramping up the ensemble – Academy Award® nominee Josh Brolin (GANGSTER SQUAD, MILK). Brolin will star as “Dwight” in the follow up to FRANK MlLLER’S SIN CITY for co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. The part of the “Dame” has yet to be cast.
EXCLUSIVE: Joseph Gordon-Levitt will make his next film Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, the Dimension Films sequel to the stylish noir drama that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are directing based on Miller’s graphic novel. I’m told that Gordon-Levitt will play the role of Johnny, a part that the filmmakers originally offered to Johnny Depp. He’s one of the core characters in overlapping story lines that feature returning players like Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, along with newcomers that include Dennis Haysbert. Other tough guy actors will be added, with Gangster Squad‘s Josh Brolin among the potential names I’ve heard.
At the same time, the canoodling that was going on between Gordon-Levitt and Marvel Studios over the lead in Guardians Of The Galaxy has come to an end. He won’t be starring in the film and Marvel is evaluating its other candidates. Sin City 2 is already shooting, and Gordon-Levitt will mix in his work as he moves through a busy month.
He’ll be at the Sundance Film Festival where his feature directorial debut, Don Jon‘s Addiction, makes its world premiere. Gordon-Levitt also wrote the script and stars with Scarlett Johansson. He’s also hosting the Sundance Awards ceremony that closes the upcoming festival in Park City, Utah. Gordon-Levitt is coming off a strong 2012, where he starred in The Dark Knight Rises and ended the year with Looper and Lincoln. …
