Sisters Olanna (Newton) and Kainene (Rose) are privileged twins who return to 1960s Nigeria from abroad and take starkly divergent paths as the nation falls into a violent civil war. Biyi Bandele wrote and directed the pic which is produced by Andrea Calderwood and exec produced by Yewande Sadiku, Muhtar Bakare, Gail Egan, Norman Merry, and Peter Hampden. Marton Csokas has joined the cast of Rogue as the male lead in the DirecTV original series opposite Thandie Newton. Csokas has also been cast in a supporting role in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, which stars Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson and Jennifer Connelly. Written by Matthew Parkhill, Rogue is executive produced by Nick Hamm, Steven Marrs, Michael Rosenberg and John Morayniss and produced by Entertainment One for DirecTV. The series centers on an undercover cop (Newton) who goes after a crime lord (Csokas) after her young son is killed in a drive-by shooting. Csokas’ previous feature work includes The Debt and Alice In Wonderland as well as The Lord of The Rings trilogy. Rogue marks Csokas’ first series regular role. Production will begin next month in Vancouver. The series will premiere summer 2013. Csokas is represented by WME, Anonymous Content and Troika.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 10, 2012 – DIRECTV announced today that it has ordered ten episodes of an original suspense-drama, ROGUE, starring award-winning actress Thandie Newton (Mission Impossible 2, Crash) from leading independent studio Entertainment One Television (eOne) and Greenroom Entertainment. ROGUE marks DIRECTV’s first foray into commissioning an original drama series exclusively for its customers. EXCLUSIVE: After venturing into original scripted series with the pickups of two acclaimed dramas that had faced cancellation, Friday Night Lights and Damages, DirecTV is moving onto launching its own original drama series. I’ve learned that the satcaster has picked up Rogue, a 10-episode drama produced by Entertainment One. Thandie Newton is in talks to star in the project, written by British writer-director Matthew Parkhill (The Caller). It centers on an undercover cop (Newton) who takes on a gangster after her young son is killed in a drive-by shooting. The project was developed at Momentum Entertainment by head of scripted Nick Hamm who will serve as an executive producer. This would mark the first series regular role for Newton, who has been heavily pursued for pilots and series over the last few years, including this season. Her only previous series gig was an arc on ER. Newton, most recently seen in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, is with WME, which also reps Parkhill, and Untitled. DirecTV is the latest non-traditional TV distributor to order scripted original series. Netflix has already greenlighted three, David Fincher’s House Of Cards starring Kevin Spacey, Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove starring Famke Janssen and Jenji Kohan’s Orange Is The New Black. Hulu has comedy series Battleground, while Crackle has ordered anthology series Unknown.
Jamie Bell has signed on to star with Cillian Murphy and Thandie Newton in The Retreat, the British thriller that begins production in Wales next month. Produced by Magnet Films, the thriller focuses on a couple vacationing on a remote island as they try to repair their marriage. When they find a soldier washed up on the beach in a biohazard suit, they discover everyone else has been killed by an airborne virus.
