The Dark Knight Rises, which has been shooting in Los Angeles and other settings worldwide, is about to head for New York City locales that may include the vicinity of Occupy Wall Street protests, the Los Angeles Times reports. Producers of the third movie in Christopher Nolan’s vision of the Batman saga recently issued a casting call under the code name “Magnus Rex,” and cast members have been told the shoot could include scenes shot at the Occupy Wall Street protests. Those demonstrations likely will be taking place during the two-week period the Warner Bros-Legendary Pictures production is scheduled to be shooting in the city that happens to be nicknamed Gotham, starting October 29. That doesn’t mean specifics of the protests will figure in the storyline, but they could add authenticity to themes of the franchise. The shoot was planned months ago, and Nolan most likely would use the protests as a backdrop for something that’s already in his script. Exact locations remain secret, but the casting call specified that interested actors should have “military and/or law enforcement training/experience, weapons training, and/or martial arts training.” Maybe they’re also recruiting for location security.
EXCLUSIVE: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his Inception director Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises for Warner Bros. I’m not sure what role he’ll play, but I’m told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring. Gordon-Levitt will be done shooting the Rian Johnson-directed Looper with Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt by then. Gordon-Levitt has the indie Hesher coming out this spring, as well as Live With It, the Jonathan Levine-directed pic about a 27-year old who tries to overcome a cancer diagnosis. CAA-repped Gordon-Levitt established himself with indie films like Brick, the underrated Scott Frank-directed The Lookout, and the Marc Webb-directed (500) Days of Summer. Nolan keeps his films shrouded in secrecy, though he did lift the veil recently to disclose that Anne Hathaway would play Selina Kyle (Catwoman) and Gordon-Levitt’s Inception co-star Tom Hardy will play Bane. What role fits Gordon-Levitt?
EXCLUSIVE: Chris Nolan is lining up actresses he’ll meet for two female lead roles in The Dark Knight Rises, the third installment of the Batfranchise which Warner Bros has dated release on July 20, 2012. I’m told one of the roles is a love interest for Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne, and the other is a villain. The actresses are: Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley. Nolan is keeping the roles under wraps, just the way that he did when he drafted his Inception star Tom Hardy to come aboard to likely play a villain. Deadline broke that story October 13. I’m still not sure what the role is and I believe Hardy took the job without knowing or reading a script that’s still being tweaked.
