Fox International Gets Into Spy Game With Spec ‘The Forger’

EXCLUSIVE: Hollywood loves material about the CIA. Fox International Productions  is the fiplatest to scoop up a spec script about spies with The Forgera story about an ex-CIA forger who is living in Istanbul and must return to the world of espionage when his former agency handler turns up dead and a female Iranian intelligence agent needs to defect to the West. As time ticks away, the forger must rely on all he has learned to get her out of the country, only to find that there is more to her than he initially realized. The project, in the vein of Bourne Supremacy, will be directed by Tolga Ornek (Labyrinth) and was written by newcomer Alex Allrich (so, hey, welcome to the WGA, Alex). It will be produced by Lou Pitt, Paul Schiff and co-produced by Tai Duncan. Ornek will also share a “story by” credit. The movie may actually be filmed entirely in Turkish. Read More »

Tom Arnold Joins Indie ‘Any Day’; Victor Gojcaj Cast In ‘The Forger’

Tom Arnold has been cast in indie drama Any Day, opposite Sean Bean and Eva Longoria. Rustam Branaman wrote and is directing the pic about a man who has a transformational experience through his relationship with his nephew. Arnold will play Roland, an ex-alcoholic who gives Vian (Bean) a shot and hires him to work at his restaurant. It’s the first pic by backer Jaguar Entertainment, whose Jeanette Zhou is producing alongside The Marshak/Zachary Co.’s Darryl Marshak and Pantheon Entertainment’s Andrew Sugerman. Filming begins October 21 in LA. Arnold is in theaters in Lionsgate’s Pulling Strings. He’s repped by APA and KLWGN Entertainment.

Victor Gojcaj is joining the cast of art crime pic The Forger, starring John Travolta. He appeared with Travolta in Columbia’s The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, when Tony Scott cast him in his acting debut as a train hijacker. Gojcaj also appeared in Scott’s Unstoppable. He is repped by aTa Management.

Christopher Plummer Joins ‘The Forger,’ Ben McKenzie To Lead ‘The Swimmer,’ ‘Love Is Strange’ Adds Darren Burrows

Code Entertainment‘s The Forger has added Oscar winner Christopher Plummer to its cast. Plummer joins John Travolta and Tye Sheridan (Mud) in the heist pic to be helmed by Philip Martin (BBC’s Wallander). Travolta plays a former art prodigy and second generation petty thief who buys his way out of prison to spend time with his ailing son. To do so he must team up with his father (Plummer) for one last job to pay back the syndicate that arranged his release. Code Entertainment’s Al Corley, Eugene Musso, and Bart Rosenblatt and Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel of The Solution Entertainment Group are producing along with Rob Carliner. Anson Downes and Linda Favila are co-exec producing. Filming begins in Boston in October. The Solution is selling international rights at Toronto; WME Global and ICM are repping domestic sales. Plummer is repped by ICM and The Pitt Group.

Southland‘s Ben McKenzie is set to star in The Swimmer, about an American extreme swimmer who sets out to conquer one of Norway’s wildest rivers and in doing so must confront his inner demons. BiFrost Pictures is financing and will produce the pic written by Bard Ivar Engelsas and directed by Richard L. Fox. The Swimmer is backed by the U.S.-Norway Film Development Project as well as the regional film funds of Norway and will also star Norwegian thesps Agnes Kittelsen and Kristoffer Joner. BiFrost’s Daniel Wagner is producing with Lisa G. Black of Garnet Girl, LLC and Brandi Savitt of Senza Pictures along with Sweet Films AS. Filming is set to begin in Norway in June 2014. Cannes: Siren Studios & The Solution Launch $50M Fund; ‘Laggies’ Tapped As First Project

Laggies is the dark comedy directed by Lynne Shelton that now has Keira Knightley attached alongside Chloe Moretz and Sam Rockwell. Also getting some of this first cash is the John Travola heist pic The Forger that Solution is producing and co-financing with Code Entertainment. Here’s the release announcing the new fund, which is the latest tie-up between the Siren and the Solution who already have a genre sales label together called Synchronicity among other partnerships:

Siren Studios, a rapidly growing creative hub for entertainment production, and The Solution Entertainment Group (The Solution), the production, financing and international sales company have completed the financing on a new multi-year $50 million revolving equity fund to finance the development and production of the partners expanding slate of feature films and television product, it was announced by Siren’s Craig Chapman, Brandon Nutt and Kyle Jackson and Myles Nestel, co-founder and partner of The Solution.

Cannes: John Travolta To Star In Heist Pic ‘The Forger’

Two- time Academy® Award Nominee John Travolta (SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, PULP FICTION) is set to star in BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning director Philip Martin’s THE FORGER produced and co-financed by Code Entertainment (Code) alongside The Solution Entertainment Group (The Solution), it was announced by Code’s Al Corley and Bart Rosenblatt and Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel, co-founders and partners of The Solution.

Plans are being made to shoot later this year, in between festival honors for his work in his upcoming release Killing Season. Code’s Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt, and Eugene Musso will produce THE FORGER, along with Prospect Park’s Rob Carliner. Jonathan Dana and Randi Michel are executive producers with The Solution’s Myles Nestel and Lisa Wilson who will handle all international rights to the film and introduce it to buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market. Anson Downes and Linda Favila will serve as Co-Executive Producers. Siren Studio’s Craig Chapman, Kyle Jackson and Brandon Nutt are also executive producing the film.
