RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Ends Fall Run On Low, ‘Victoria’s Secret’ & CBS Win Night, ‘American Country Awards’ Steady

2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - ShowOne thing about last night’s primetime – it was full of Taylor Swift. The music superstar was on Fox’s American Country Awards (1.4/4) with a taped speech from Australia, where she is on tour. She was also on CBS’ The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (3.4/10), the headline performer amid the winged lingerie models. Although the 10 PM VSFS was the top-rated show of the night (it actually took place November 13 in NYC), it saw a 6% slip from its December 4, 2012 show to hit its lowest result since 2010. The runway show’s 9.71 million viewers Tuesday was its third-best audience ever after the 10.50 million of its debut in 2002 and 10.39 million in 2011. Before the models, CBS had NCIS (2.8/8) and NCIS: LA (2.4/6). Back after two weeks, the former dipped 7% from its last original November 19 to tie a season low, while the latter was even with its most recent new show November 26 to tie a series low. Still, with 18.83 million total viewers, NCIS was the most-watched show of the night by far. NCIS: LA was the second-most-watched show in primetime with 14.71 million viewers. With a 2.8/8 rating, CBS won the night in the key demo and in total viewers with 14.42 million.

CLARK GREGG, J. AUGUST RICHARDSABC’s Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2.0/6) headed into its winter break last night. With the prerequisite cliffhanger, last night’s midseason finale was down a hard 23% from its last original two weeks ago. That’s a season low for the freshman secret agent show, which has had a roller-coaster ratings ride since its debut. Tuesday was a better night for new comedies The Goldbergs (1.7/5) and Trophy Wife (1.2/3), which were up 21% and 9, respectively, from last week’s low and low tie. In the second week of a short stint, What Would You Do? (0.9/3) was down 10% from its December 3 episode to a series low. Read More »

CBS’ ‘Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’ Back On Dec 10

By | Monday September 9, 2013 @ 7:49am PDT

CBS announced this morning its annual orgy of undies and interesting camera angles known as The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be broadcast on Tuesday, December 10 at 10 PM. Once upon a time, the show was considered quite controversial, and clocked big ratings — the National Organization of Women crowned it “softcore porn.” When ABC, its original primetime broadcast host, decided the show was too hot to handle, CBS picked up the show and has run with it ever since, though the 2004 knickers-fest broadcast was scrubbed in the wake of Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction. Last year’s controversy centered on an outfit that offended Native Americans; the lingerie company issued an apology and removed the offending get-up from the broadcast, which is taped an airs days after the actual runway show. This year’s controversy seems to be a report that boy-band One Direction would perform, which Victoria’s Secret has denied in the strongest possible terms, according to news reports. On the other hand, Victoria’s Secret’s parent company denied, back in 2004, that the broadcast had been cancelled owing to fallout over Jackson’s Super Bowl stunt.

By | Wednesday December 5, 2012 @ 9:03am PST

You know Christmas is coming when Rudolph shows up. Unfortunately his light did not shine so bright last night: CBS’ airing of the 1964 stop-motion animation Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (2.9/8) special was down 28% from last year. Also down Tuesday was The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (3.5/10). Airing at 10 PM, the lingerie show fell 24% from last year’s all-time high. However, Victoria’s Secret was the night’s highest-rated show. CBS also broadcast a repeat of NCIS (2.0/5) at 9 PM.

After a rise last week, NBC’s The Voice (3.4/10) also fell, its live results broadcast slipped 11% from the November 27 show. Go On (2.5/7) was flat with last week as was The New Normal (1.7/4). Parenthood (1.7/5) was down 6% from its November 27 broadcast.
