CBS announced this morning its annual orgy of undies and interesting camera angles known as The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be broadcast on Tuesday, December 10 at 10 PM. Once upon a time, the show was considered quite controversial, and clocked big ratings — the National Organization of Women crowned it “softcore porn.” When ABC, its original primetime broadcast host, decided the show was too hot to handle, CBS picked up the show and has run with it ever since, though the 2004 knickers-fest broadcast was scrubbed in the wake of Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction. Last year’s controversy centered on an outfit that offended Native Americans; the lingerie company issued an apology and removed the offending get-up from the broadcast, which is taped an airs days after the actual runway show. This year’s controversy seems to be a report that boy-band One Direction would perform, which Victoria’s Secret has denied in the strongest possible terms, according to news reports. On the other hand, Victoria’s Secret’s parent company denied, back in 2004, that the broadcast had been cancelled owing to fallout over Jackson’s Super Bowl stunt.
You know Christmas is coming when Rudolph shows up. Unfortunately his light did not shine so bright last night: CBS’ airing of the 1964 stop-motion animation Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (2.9/8) special was down 28% from last year. Also down Tuesday was The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (3.5/10). Airing at 10 PM, the lingerie show fell 24% from last year’s all-time high. However, Victoria’s Secret was the night’s highest-rated show. CBS also broadcast a repeat of NCIS (2.0/5) at 9 PM.
After a rise last week, NBC’s The Voice (3.4/10) also fell, its live results broadcast slipped 11% from the November 27 show. Go On (2.5/7) was flat with last week as was The New Normal (1.7/4). Parenthood (1.7/5) was down 6% from its November 27 broadcast.
CBS won the night in the 18-49 demo and in overall viewers with 10.16 million.
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will return to long-time network home CBS on December 4. This year’s event will be taped again in New York City featuring Victoria’s Secret Angels Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, …
