Greg Daniels-Produced Comedy From Tom Gormican & Richie Keen Lands At Fox

After lengthy negotiations, Fox has closed a deal with Universal TV and Greg Daniels‘ studio-based Deedle Dee for a sibling comedy written by Tom Gormican and Richie Keen. It centers on Richie, a mediocre professional tennis player who returns to his college town, the scene of his greatness, in order to reboot his life, only to be caught between a lifestyle he never got to live — embodied by his carefree, bar-owning, younger brother Tom — and Kirsten, the love of his life he will have to grow up in order to get. Zac Efron To Star In ‘Are We Officially Dating?’

Zac Efron will star in the romantic comedy Are We Officially Dating, which Tom Gormican wrote and will direct for TreeHouse Pictures. Script, which made the 2010 Black List, concerns three friends in New York City who make a pact to remain single just as they each start to fall in love. Production begins in Manhattan this fall.

Treehouse Pictures’ Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen are producing with Scott Aversano and Andrew O’Connor. Michael Simkin, Jason Barrett, and Manu Gargi are executive producing. QED International is handling international sales. Gormican is working on a pilot with Greg Daniels and Tracy Katsky, and recently sold Bad Form to Warner Bros and Save The Date to Sony with Neil Moritz. WME and 3 Arts rep Gormican while CAA and Alchemy rep Efron.

Tom Gormican/Jake Kasdan Ensemble Comedy Lands At CBS With Penalty

After a three-way bidding war, single-camera comedy pitch On The Verge of Greatness has landed at CBS with a significant penalty. The twentysomething ensemble comedy, from 3 Arts and 20th Century Fox TV, will be written/executive produced by feature writer Tom Gormican, with Jake Kasdan on board to direct and executive produce through his overall deal at 20th TV. Also executive producing are 3 Arts’ Howard Klein and Oly Obst, with Melvin Mar producing. 20th TV pitched the comedy to the Big 4 broadcast networks last Tuesday, with 3 of them — ABC, NBC and CBS — buying it in the room, thus sparking a bidding war. Gornican’s script Are We Officially Dating? landed on the 2010 Black List. He has romantic comedy Save the Date in the works at Sony with Neal Moritz producing and is co-producing Relativity’s upcoming Farrelly brothers movie. Kasdan is coming off directing the pilot for the upcoming Fox/20th TV comedy New Girl.

Comedy’s white-hot selling season continues with another half-hour project sparking a big bidding war. Titled On The Verge of Greatness, the single-camera twentysomething ensemble comedy hails from 3 Arts and 20th Century Fox TV.
