Daniel Buran (Level 26: Dark Origins) has joined the cast of Alan Ball’s vampire drama True Blood for a meaty seven-episode arc on the upcoming fourth season. The actor, repped by Rebel and Leverage, will play Raoul, the werewolf packmaster of Shreveport.
Iranian-born character actor Shaun Toub (Iron Man, The Last Airbender) has been added to the cast of another HBO drama series, the upcoming Luck, as a recurring. Luck, a David Milch/Michael Mann collaboration starring Dustin Hoffman, takes a provocative look at horse racing – the owners, gamblers, jockeys and industry players. Abrams Artists-repped Toub will play Doctor Khan, a local emergency room doctor with a surprisingly complicated backstory.
EXCLUSIVE: Scottish actress Laura Fraser has landed a lead role on Showtime’s drama pilot Homeland. Additionally, In Treatment standout Dane DeHaan has joined HBO’s vampire drama True Blood as a recurring, while Rebecca Wisocky has been cast for a key guest spot in the fourth season premiere.
Homeland, from 24 executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, centers on Marine Sergeany Scott Brody, who returns home eight years after going missing in Iraq, and Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a driven CIA officer who suspects he might be plotting an attack on America. Fraser (A Knight’s Tale) will play Jessica Brody, Scott Brody’s smart, strong wife. Production on the pilot, whose cast also includes Mandy Patinkin, is slated to begin Jan. 10 in Charlotte, N.C.
On True Blood, DeHaan will play Timbo, one of the teens Jason (Ryan Kwanten) takes care of in Hotshot. The part extends DeHaan’s relationship with HBO. He plays Jesse on the current season of the network’s drama In Treatment. Wisocky (90210) will play Queen Mab, who is described as an elegant beauty who presides over a fantasy land and also has a temper. Wisocky will next be seen in Atlas Shrugged.
EXCLUSIVE: Janina Gavankar (The Gates, The L Word) has joined True Blood‘s upcoming fourth season as a regular. Additionally, Alexandra Breckenridge (Dirt, Life Unexpected) and Vedette Lim (As the World Turns) have come on board the HBO smash as recurring. Meanwhile, co-star Jessica Tuck has been promoted to a full-fledged series regular.
Gavankar will play Luna, a super-sexy public school teacher and shapeshifter who is first seen attending an informal gathering with others like her. Breckenridge, a noted voiceover artist who can regularly be heard on Fox’s Family Guy, will play Daisy, a member of a wiccan group founded by Marnie (new series regular Fiona Shaw). Finally, Main Title-repped Lim will portray Naomi, a fierce fighter who participates in underground cage matches for money.
Tuck, repped by Michael Greene and Assoc., joined True Blood as even-tempered vampire mouthpiece Nan Flannigan in season 1. Her role was beefed up considerably last season, so news of her full-time upgrade doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
The flurry of True Blood castings arrive one week before production on season 4 is scheduled to get underway. Michael Ausiello will be contributing to Deadline.com and Movieline.com as he preps for the early 2011 launch of a new TV-centric website.
EXCLUSIVE: Joe Manganiello, dubbed the hottest new addition to HBO’s True Blood this season, has been promoted to regular for Season 4. He plays hot sexy alpha male werewolf Alcide Herveaux, an iconic character in the The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels that True Blood is based on. There was a lot of buzz surrounding the casting of the role late last year before it went to One Tree Hill alum Manganiello. He was originally supposed to appear only in a handful of episodes, but I hear he impressed the show’s producers and was embraced by True Blood fans, Read More »
