UPDATED: The Toronto Film Festival announced several additions to the 2014 lineup this morning including the documentary pics and the lineups for The Masters, Vanguard and Midnight Madness. The docu lineup features pioneers of BASE jumping in Sunshine Superman; Los Angeles sex workers in Tales Of The Grim Sleeper; survivors of the Indonesian genocide in The Look Of Silence; and, in Red Army, a hockey captain’s transition from national hero to political enemy during the rise and fall of the Soviet game.
The Midnight Madness section includes the world premiere of Kevin Smith’s Tusk, the wacky horror thriller that dropped its first trailer during Comic-Con. Set in the Canadian wilderness, it stars Justin Long as a podcaster who’s assigned to interview a mysterious seafarer (Michael Parks) who happens to have a strange obsession with walruses. Haley Joel Osment and Genesis Rodriguez also star. The pic hits theaters just after the fest on September 19; the Toronto fest runs September 4-14.

“All that separates man from animal…are the stories he tells”. Those words appear at the beginning of the first official trailer for Kevin Smith’s wacky horror thriller Tusk which dropped last night at Comic-Con. Smith is clearly in his element in this genre. Set in the Canadian wilderness, pic stars Justin Long as a podcaster who’s assigned to interview a mysterious seafarer (Michael Parks) who happens to have a strange obsession with walruses. XYZ Films has boarded Kevin Smith‘s new horror pic Tusk for international sales and will introduce the project at Berlin’s EFM next month. Demarest Films (A Most Wanted Man, Machete Kills) financed and is producing Tusk in partnership with A24 (Spring Breakers, The Bling Ring). Smith wrote the film, which was borne out of one of his popular SModcasts. Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Parks star. Tusk, currently in production, is described as a modern-day monster movie that follows a journalist named Wallace (Long) who finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses. A24 and Demarest Films have teamed up on Kevin Smith’s latest film Tusk. The film, which stars Justin Long, Michael Parks, Genesis Rodriguez, and Haley Joel Osment, was born out of one of Smith’s immensely popular SModcasts. The modern-day monster movie, which Smith also wrote, is currently in production. Sam Englebardt, David Greathouse, and Shannon McIntosh are producing. The film will be released third quarter of 2014.

EXCLUSIVE: Fresh off an acting break to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Haley Joel Osment has landed a pair of indie comedies: the Kevin Smith-helmed Tusk and Max Landis’ Me Him Her. In Tusk, Osment will play Teddy, whose best friend and podcast co-host (Justin Long) goes missing in the backwoods of Canada. He joins forces with his friend’s girlfriend (Genesis Rodriguez) to search for him. Production begins next month in North Carolina and LA. Me Him Her‘s plot is being kept under wraps, but the cast includes Scott Bakula, Alia Shawkat and Geena Davis. Osment also appears on Amazon Studios’ sitcom Alpha House, and is in the IFC miniseries Spoils Of Babylon from Funny Or Die which debuts in January. He is repped by Resolution, The Schiff Co and Coast To Coast.
