After downsizing the upcoming seventh season of Bones from 22 to 13 episodes because of the pregnancy of star Emily Deschanel, Fox has now increased the order to 17 episodes, our sister site TV Line reports. The additional episodes will likely not air this season but over the summer or may be held for next season.

CBS Gives Full-Season Orders To All 5 Freshman Series: ‘Hawaii Five-0′, ‘Blue Bloods’, ‘Defenders’, ‘Mike & Molly’ & ‘$#*!’

UPDATE: I hear the orders to $#*! and The Defenders are for 6 additional episodes and 3 scripts, while the 9-episode back order to Mike & Molly may be expanded to 11.

PREVIOUS: CBS is not monkeying around, handing out today full-season orders to all of its freshman series: dramas Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods, dramedy The Defenders and comedies Mike & Molly and $#*! My Dad Says. No big surprise here given the fact that those happen to be the five most-watched new series of the season and 3 of them, HawaiiMike & Molly and $#*! also rank as the top three new series in adults 18-49. The solid showing by the five freshmen helped CBS win the opening 4 weeks of the season for the first time. ”Everything has clicked so far this year—from development in January, to scheduling in May, to production over the summer, to marketing and publicity in the fall,” CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said. Hawaii is averaging 14.2 million viewers and a 4.1/11 in 18-49 and also ranks as the most DVR’d TV program, adding some 3.4 million viewers Read More »

ABC Trims ‘V’ Series Order To 10 Episodes

Nellie Andreeva

I hear the order of ABC’s sophomore sci-fi drama V is being reduced from 13 to 10 episodes. ABC last week announced that V will return January 4 and will air in Dancing with the Stars‘ result show slot at 9 PM on Tuesdays, following fellow sci-fi drama No Ordinary Family. That gives V a 12-episode window until the spring season premiere of Dancing on March 29, but I hear the period is expected to include 2 preemptions, leading to V‘s order getting trimmed. Since the series is still filming, V producers will adjust the storyline for a proper season ending.

ABC Picks Up Winter Edition Of ‘Wipeout’

ABC has ordered a new cycle of its summer reality series Wipeout for midseason. ABC already renewed the show for next summer in August, so the winter run will be in addition to the summer one, bringing the total Season 4 order to 24 episodes. Set to premiere in January, the new cycle will take place on a new “Winter Wonderland” course featuring slippery ice, frosty snow and avalanches. New stunts will include Spanker Sleds, the Wipeout Ski Lift and the Polar Bear Run. ABC has kept Wipeout in the summer with the exception of a Super Bowl special that aired during half-time in 2008. But with the network’s new scripted series underperforming, new boss Paul Lee is clearly looking for reinforcements for midseason.
