RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Bachelorette,’ ‘Glass House,’ ‘MasterChef’ Up, ‘America’s Got Talent’ Wins Night

By | Tuesday July 3, 2012 @ 9:07am PDT

Bachelorette RatingsIt was down to the final three on The Bachelorette (2.5/8) last night, but the ratings were up 9% from last week. Also up — after two weak weeks since its June 18 debut – was ABC’s legally challenged The Glass House (1.2/3), which also was up 9% from last week.

Dara Torres didn’t end up making the U.S. Olympic Team team and Monday’s 8-8:30 PM U.S. Olympic Trials: Swimming (1.8/6) on NBC doesn’t seem to have broken any ratings records in fast nationals estimates. However, it still pulled in 7.3 million viewers overall. Also on NBC, a 2 1/2-hour America’s Got Talent (2.9/9), live from New York, was essentially flat with last week’s 3.0/9. It drew 10.2 million viewers overall, making it the night’s most-watched show. NBC won the night in adults 18-49 and total viewers. Read More »

By | Saturday June 30, 2012 @ 11:39am PDT

NBC SportsNBC dominated Friday evening with NBC Sports’ coverage of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which swept the night’s six half-hours in 18-49 demos and total viewers and represented the No. 1 and No. 2 shows of the night in both categories. From 8-9 p.m. ET, the U.S. Olympic Team Trials: Swimming Finals (1.5/6 in adults 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) delivered NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the time period since October 8, 2010 (Dateline NBC, 1.6) and biggest overall viewer total in the hour since March 2, 2012 (Who Do You Think You Are?, 7.369 million). U.S. Olympic Team Trials led the hour among repeats on ABC (Shark Tank 1.1/5 in 18-49, 4.23 million total viewers) CBS (Undercover Boss, 1.0/4, 4.74 million) and Fox (House, 0.5/2, 1.84 million) in all key ratings categories – adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, as well as total viewers.

From 9-11 p.m. ET the Gymnastics Women’s Qualifying trials (2.3/8 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall) generated the highest 18-49 rating for NBC in the time period since February 26, 2010 (Vancouver Winter Olympics, 6.9) and biggest overall viewership in the slot since March 25, 2011 (Dateline, 8.150 million). Wipeout RatingsIt was another mostly down summer night for the English-language broadcast networks, allowing Spanish-language Univision to take charge, edging ABC (1.3/4 in 18-49) and CBS (1.3/4) for the top spot Thursday among adults 18-49 with a 1.4/4. CBS was No. 1 in total viewers (6.5 million) with all repeats.

ABC’s Wipeout (1.9/6) is the latest returning summer series to open lower than last year. The reality series was down 21% from its June 2011 premiere (down 30% from its winter opener). Its lead-in, rookie Duets (1.0/3), continues to falter, down 17% from last week to a series low. At 10 PM, just-renewed Canadian drama Rookie Blue (1.1/3) was down 15% from three weeks ago to a season low. Fox’s new unscripted series Take Me Out (1.0/3) and The Choice (1.2/4) also slid, down 17% and 20%, respectively, from last week. Even the U.S. Olympic Trials on NBC (1.7/6) were down after keeping steady and even slightly growing over the previous nights as Michael Phelps took a break from the pool. Following the trials, a new episode of Canadian import Saving Hope (0.7/2) was the lowest-rated program on the Big 4 networks last night. Still, its rating was up a whopping 40% from last week’s low. Rock Center With Brian Williams (0.8/2) was flat.

Michael Phelps Olympic TrialsThe U.S. Olympics Trials on NBC held steady, while all other originals last night were down. NBC’s America’s Got Talent from 9-11 PM (2.8/8) slipped 13% from Tuesday’s telecast to match its season low but still was the highest-rated series by a mile last night, with the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of the reality series likely to finish as 1-2 for the week. The swimming finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials from 8-9 PM (1.9/7) matched the trials’ fast national from Tuesday night, while the viewership posted an uptick to 7 million viewers. That follows the trend of audience growth for each of the five consecutive nights to date of NBC telecasts, which have been headlined by the Michael Phelps-Ryan Lochte rivalry. NBC easily won the night. Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance (2.0/7) was down 17% from last week. Following comedy repeats, the premiere of ABC’s Final Witness (1.0/3) missed the mark at 10 PM, down 17% from last June’s debut of Primetime Nightline:Beyond Belief. Also off was CBS’ Dogs In The City (0.9/3), down 18% from last week. It was lower rated than the CBS drama repeats that followed it.

RATINGS RAT RACE: Olympic Trials Go For Gold, ‘America’s Got Talent’, ‘Love In The Wild’ & ‘MasterChef’ Up

U.S Swimming Trials 2012 RatingsIt was back in the water Tuesday and a big night for NBC — both wet and dry. The U.S. Olympic Trials: Swimming Finals (1.9/7), live from Omaha, Neb, looks in fast nationals to be the trials‘ largest audience since August 20, 2000, drawing 7 million viewers. That could change later in the day with updated nationals, bringing it closer to Monday’s total viewership of 6.93 million, basically tying the two nights for the post-2000 high. Read More »

RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Glass House’ Way Down, ‘Bachelorette’ Ties Season Low

By | Tuesday June 26, 2012 @ 9:12am PDT

Glass House RatingsThe cracks are starting to show in The Glass House (1.2/3). The second week of ABC’s legally contested reality show was down 20% from its June 18 debut, which scored a 1.6/4. Opening ABC’s night at 8 PM, The Bachelorette (2.2/7) hit Prague but stumbled, down 4% from last week. That ties a series low for the search-for-love series.

Laying more groundwork for its Olympics coverage from London this summer, NBC had the U.S. Olympic Trials: Swimming (1.9/6) live from 8-9 PM. The network’s America’s Got Talent (3.0/8) rose 3% from last week, making it the No. 1 show Monday among adults 18-49 and total viewers with an audience of 10.41 million. NBC’s American Ninja Warrior (2.0/5) was flat with last week and tied — except for specials — its season low. Read More »
