Hot Teaser Trailer: ‘Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters’

Mean Girls‘ Mark Waters is directing Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, the first installment in a franchise adaptation of Richelle Mead’s six-volume young adult novel series. Heathers scribe Daniel Waters wrote the script. The project was a big seller for IM Global in Berlin where The Weinstein Co. acquired U.S. distribution rights. Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry star as a pair of bloodsucking best friends who attend a special school for Vampires struggling to retain some humanity while other Vampires become more feral. Danila Kozlovsky, Olga Kurylenko, Sarah Hyland, Joely Richardson and Gabriel Byrne are also in the cast. The film releases on Valentine’s Day 2014.

The Weinstein Company‘s Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters really has some bite now. A series of actors have signed on to the film based on the best-selling book series by Richelle Mead. Sami Gayle, who appears on CBS’ Blue Bloods is playing Mia, the nemesis in the books. Cameron Monaghan (Shameless), Ashley Charles (White Buffalo) and Claire Foy (White Heat) also have boarded the pic which stars Olga Kurylenko, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry and Danila Kozlovski. The New York Times best-selling books tell the tale of Rose Hathaway, a 17-year-old girl who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire best friend Lissa. The two girls attend a special school for vampires who struggle to retain some humanity while other Vampires become more feral. Monaghan plays the role of Mason Ashford, best friend to Rose, who becomes a romantic interest. Mark Waters is directing from a script by Daniel Waters. Gayle appears with Robin Wright and Paul Giamatti in The Congress, which is premiering at Cannes. She also just wrapped Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage opposite Kristin Wiig and Guy Pierce. ‘Vampire Academy’ Film Takes Flight; Mark Waters Directing Daniel Waters’ Script

EXCLUSIVE: Hoping to tap a new vein in the young adult vampire genre that made Twilight Saga such a global hit, Reliance Entertainment and IM Global are co-financing the first installment of a new film franchise based on the six-volume Richelle Mead young adult novel series that will come to the screen as Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. Daniel Waters, who wrote the iconic Sundance black comedy Heathers, has written the script for the first movie. His brother, Mean Girls helmer Mark Waters, will direct the film. Casting is in full swing for a summer shoot.

An international search led the producers to Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures) and Australian newcomer Lucy Fry. They will play lead characters Rose and Lissa alongside Russian star Danila Kozlovski (We Are From The Future,) who will play the role of Dimitri.

The film will be produced by Michael Preger and his Preger Entertainment banner, Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, and Kintop Pictures’ Deepak Nayer. IM Global’s Stuart Ford is executive producer.

All six books have been bestsellers on The New York Times young adult list since the series debuted in 2007. Two of the books have been turned into graphic novels.
