EXCLUSIVE: Millennium Entertainment is near a deal to distribute You Are Here, the film written and directed by Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner that premiered at the last Toronto Film Festival.
It is the first film Weiner directed since What Do You Do All Day, the 1996 helming debut Weiner made before he developed his edgy voice on The Sopranos and then Mad Men, the celebrated AMC drama which begins its final season Sunday. The film stars Owen Wilson as bored TV weatherman Steve and Zach Galifianakis as eccentric shut-in Steve. The two childhood best friends embark on a road trip back to their hometown after the latter learns he has inherited a large sum of money from his recently deceased estranged father. There they do battle against Ben’s formidable sister (Amy Poehler) and deal with his father’s 25-year-old widow (Laura Ramsey). No confirmation on the deal, but I’m told reliably it’s happening and that the film will come out later this year. The film is produced by Gilbert Films’ Gary Gilbert, Jordan Horowitz, Scott Hornbacher, and Weiner.
Pic was packaged and sold by CAA and ICM Partners.

Matt Weiner wrote and will make his feature directing debut on Gilbert Films’ You Are Here, a road-trip movie starring Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis that begins shooting in May in North Carolina. Amy Poehler is in negotiations to co-star. Weiner, who has directed several episodes of his Emmy-winning Mad Men, will fit this in between seasons of the AMC drama, which returned Sunday after a long absence to record ratings for its Season 5 premiere. “This movie has been my passion for eight years and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true,” Weiner said in a release announcing the film. “I can’t wait to get started because the movie is about everything I care about and I’m tired of reading it out loud to my friends.” In You Are Here, a local weatherman and freewheeling bachelor (Wilson) and bi-polar man-child Ben (Galifianakis) are childhood best friends who embark on a road trip home after Ben discovers his estranged father has passed away. Once there, Ben learns his eccentric father had big plans for him and he’s inherited a whole lot more than his father’s money. As Ben struggles with his new responsibilities, his friendship with Steve is tested by the complications of his inheritance, his sister’s ambition, and Steve’s desire to be with his father’s beautiful young widow. Poehler will play the sister. Gary … Read More »

It will be based in Vancouver; Devine was born and raised in Toronto. Emily Alden will run day-to-day operations as VP Production and Development. “We spent a considerable amount of time in the strategic phase, analyzing the need for and the ability of the Canadian marketplace to support a new distribution company,” said Devine, who will split her time between Vancouver and Los Angeles. ”We were pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of support for a Vancouver-based distribution company.”
PNP’s first theatrical release will be You Are Here, the first feature from Toronto-based video artist Daniel Cockburn.
