Barry Levinson Back With ICM Partners

EXCLUSIVE: Writer/director/producer Barry Levinson has returned to ICM Partners. Levinson, who produces his films through his Baltimore Pictures banner and teams with Tom Fontana for TV series through their Levinson/Fontana Company banner, hasn’t chosen his next feature directing outing. On the TV side, he and Fontana exec produce the BBC America series Copper. Levinson last helmed and produced the HBO film You Don’t Know Jack, which starred Al Pacino as Jack Kevorkian and received 15 Emmy nominations. He also exec produced Phil Spector for HBO. Levinson continues to be managed by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and lawyered by Barry Hirsch.

Adam Mazer To Write HBO Pilot Based On Susanna Moore’s Book ‘The Big Girls’

Adam Mazer, who won an Emmy last year for penning the HBO movie You Don’t Know Jack, has made a deal to write a pilot for the network based on Susanna Moore’s book The Big Girls, which Joel Schumacher is in discussions to direct. Electus’ Ben Silverman and Original Media’s Charlie Corwin are producing. The novel centers on a young psychiatrist at a maximum security women’s prison who attempts to treat the criminally insane while dealing with her own damaged psyche. Mazer is with ICM and Inphenate.

Barry Levinson Directs On Big Screen Again, Nick Cassavetes Acts, Jeff Bridges Walks

Some action on the feature front. Sony’s Columbia Pictures attached Barry Levinson to direct Brother Jack, a  Mosaic-produced drama based on the life of human rights activist Jack Healey. Harley Peyton wrote the script and Kelly Masterson is rewriting. Levinson’s got a little momentum from the Jack Kevorkian biopic You Don’t Know Jack which he directed for HBO to 15 Emmy nominations today…

I must amend a recent post about the lack of starpower (compared to other versions of the film contemplated over the years) in the film adaptation of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. There’s a recognizable name in the cast of a movie that financier John Aglialoro put into production just before he would have lost the rights to the author’s estate. It’s filmmaker Nick Cassavetes, who’s playing the role of Richard McNamara. The film is being directed by Paul Johansson (who also plays John Galt), and Johansson acted in the Cassavetes-directed Alpha Dog. Cassavetes, who is also playing himself in current episodes of Entourage, is moonlighting as he and Warner Bros work out a cast for the remake of A Star Is Born that he plans to direct…

The nominees for the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning at Los Angeles’ Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

HBO’s The Pacific received the most nominations with 24, Fox’s Glee 19, AMC’s Mad Men 17, NBC’s 30 Rock and HBO’s Made For TV movies Temple Grandin and You Don’t Know Jack 15, ABC’s Modern Family 14, NBC’s Saturday Night Live 12, ABC’s Dancing With The Stars 9, Showtime’s Nurse Jackie 8, CBS’ Two And A Half Men 6, CBS’ Big Bang Theory 5, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and CBS’ How I Met Your Mother and NBC’s The Office 4.

Overall in nominations, HBO led with 101, ABC with 63 received the most nominations of any broadcast network, followed by CBS 57, NBC 48, FOX 47, and PBS 32. AMC had 26, Showtime 23, Discovery Channel 14, Lifetime 11, FX Networks 9, Comedy Central 8, Cartoon Network 7, Bravo and History and Syfy 6, Disney Channel 5, USA and DirecTV 4, TNT 3, Nickelodeon and Animal Planet and Sundance Channel and IFC and A&E 2, BET and Travel Channel and TCM and NGC and EPIXHD 1. As for studios, 20th TV 49, Lionsgate received 26, Warner Bros TV 23.
