Zero Gravity Management Signs Comics Publisher Caliber EntertainmentAs prolific 1990s-era comics publisher Caliber Comics mounts its comeback 14 years after it stopped the presses, the comics and graphic novel shingle and its parent company Caliber Entertainment have signed with Zero Gravity Management. Caliber was revived earlier this year under CEO Gary Reed, kicking back into gear after publishing more than 1,300 titles including works from the likes of Brian Bendis, Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, and Ed Brubaker. Zero Gravity will rep Caliber’s library of IP for development across all multimedia platforms in a fertile time for the comics-to-screen business. “We have seen the rapid expansion of original programming along all multimedia platforms,” said Caliber VP Eric Reichert. “Now with the assistance of Zero Gravity, Caliber Entertainment and Caliber Comics has the ability to properly showcase and develop its properties that cover just about every genre within this medium.”

Zero Gravity Enlists ‘Corpsemen’ To Kick Off South Africa Tie-Up

Zero Gravity Management and South Africa-based Diprente Films have set the first of three movies they will co-produce and co-finance there: the horror action thriller Corpsemen. The management company’s Marc Bloom wrote the script, which follows a man on a secret mission to retrieve an influential senator’s son who has gone missing during active service. What he finds will change his life and question his perception of reality. Brett Simmons (The Monkey’s Paw, Animal) is directing, and casting is currently underway for a planned spring 2014 shoot. John Volmink and Isaac Mogajane will produce for Diprente and while Mark Holder and Christine Holder are on board for Zero Gravity. The latter pair is in post on Walter, the indie drama starring Virginia Madsen and William H. Macy.

APA Signs Yule Caise; Will Yun Lee Inks With Zero Gravity Management; Resolution Reps Lamorne Morris

Yule Caise has signed with APA and 3 Arts Entertainment. In July, he was selected as the Fox Writers Intensive Fellow from among 10 finalists. Caise inked a development deal with FX Networks, in conjunction with Fox Broadcasting Co and 20th Century Fox Television, and will pitch a new original script to FX. His credits including writing and directing the 2010 comedy Swishbucklers. Caise is repped by attorney Linda Lichter.

Will Yun Lee has inked with Zero Gravity Management. The actor’s recent credits include The Wolverine and Total Recall and recurring roles on Hawaii Five-O and the new drama Intelligence. He also appeared in such films as Die Another Day and Elektra.

Lamorne Morris has signed with Resolution in all areas. He stars as Winston on Fox’s New Girl and recently joined the cast of the indie drama Sex Ed. Morris’ credits also include Comedy Central’s Drunk History and several independent features and shorts.

Zero Gravity Signs ‘Hotel 33’ Helmer Kellie Madison; ICM Signs Donovan Marsh; One Entertainment Expands To LA

Hot off her Toronto deal to direct Jason Patrick in Hotel 33 for Open Road Films and Emmett / Furla / Oasis Films, Kellie Madison has signed with Zero Gravity Management. The horror thriller follows a small town Pennsylvania detective investigating the disappearance of a youngster in a haunted hotel where dozens went missing in 1953. Hotel 33 will mark Madison’s directorial debut and she’ll direct from her own script. Madison, also an actress, wrote, directed and produced the award-winning short Bathtub Picnic and wrote and produced telefilm Dear Mr. Gacy starring William Forsythe.

Also at Toronto, writer-director Donovan Marsh has come aboard as a client at ICM Partners for representation in all areas. Marsh’s crime drama iNumber Number premiered at TIFF in the Contemporary World Cinema program, with XYZ Films handling sales and remake rights. South African born Marsh previously directed features Dollars and White Pipes and Spud, adapted from John van de Ruit’s novel. He’s adapted Lauren Beukes’ sci-fi novel Zoo City and is developing a high concept thriller set in the milieu of black market genetic engineering.
